One terminal, 34 gates, 20+ airlines. Everything you need to navigate Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) — the Barbara Jordan Terminal, security checkpoints, Austin airport parking and ground transportation.
Austin Airport Map
The Austin Airport map below shows the full layout of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS/KAUS). AUS handled 21.7 million passengers in 2025, making it one of the fastest-growing airports in the United States. It is a major base for Southwest Airlines (~40% of all passengers), Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and United Airlines, with 20+ carriers serving over 85 destinations including London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Mexico City.
As you can see on the Austin Airport map, the layout is straightforward: one main terminal (the Barbara Jordan Terminal) with all 34 gates arranged in a continuous east-to-west concourse. Study the AUS airport map before you travel so you know which gate area your airline uses and which security checkpoint is closest.

Austin Airport Location Map
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is located about 8 miles (13 km) southeast of downtown Austin. The Austin Airport location map below shows AUS’s position relative to the city. The airport is accessed via SH-71 (Ben White Boulevard) from the west and US-183 from the north, connecting to Interstate 35 (the main north–south corridor through Austin) and MoPac Expressway (Loop 1).
Austin Airport Terminal — Barbara Jordan Terminal
The Barbara Jordan Terminal is the sole passenger terminal at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Named after the late Texas congresswoman Barbara Jordan, it houses all check-in counters, security checkpoints, baggage claim carousels, gates and concessions under one roof. The terminal is arranged in a continuous concourse running east to west, with 34 gates split across three sections.
Gate Areas
Austin Airport Airlines
Austin-Bergstrom is served by more than 20 passenger airlines. All operate from the Barbara Jordan Terminal. Southwest Airlines is the dominant carrier, accounting for roughly 40% of all passengers. Delta Air Lines has grown aggressively in Austin and is set to become the anchor tenant of the main terminal after the expansion, eventually occupying 15 gates.
All three airline lounges are located on the mezzanine level across from Gate 22. International flights depart from the six widebody-capable gates in the East wing. The live music stage near Gate 19 features local Austin bands daily — a nod to Austin’s “Live Music Capital of the World” heritage.
Austin Airport Security Checkpoints
Austin Airport has four TSA security checkpoints in the Barbara Jordan Terminal. In February 2026, the new Checkpoint 4 opened as part of the West Infill expansion, adding up to eight additional screening lanes. Checkpoint 3 had been closed since February 2024 for construction; the expanded Checkpoint 4 replaces its capacity and then some.
Austin Airport Expansion — Journey With AUS
Austin-Bergstrom is undergoing its largest expansion in history, a $5+ billion program called Journey With AUS. The programme will nearly double gate capacity from 34 to over 60 gates. Key projects include a new 26-gate Concourse B connected by an underground pedestrian tunnel, a 6-gate interim Concourse M, a redesigned arrivals and departures hall with a centralized TSA checkpoint, new roadways and the 7,000-space Yellow Garage.
Future Concourse B
Concourse B will be a standalone midfield building south of the current terminal, connected by an underground walkway with moving walkways. Southwest Airlines will anchor Concourse B with 18 gates, United Airlines will have 5 gates, and 3 gates will be available for common use. Construction is expected to break ground after the Midfield Taxiways are complete, with opening projected in the early 2030s.
Concourse M
Concourse M is a temporary pre-engineered facility that will add six gates on the west side of the airfield, expected to open around 2027. Passengers will reach Concourse M via a short bus ride from Gate 13 inside the Barbara Jordan Terminal. Some gates will have jet bridges; others will use stair boarding. Once Concourse B opens, Concourse M will be converted into a belly freight facility.
Getting to Austin Airport
All ground transportation operates from the lower (arrivals) level of the Barbara Jordan Terminal.

Austin Airport Map — Arrivals
If you are arriving at Austin Airport or meeting a passenger, the arrivals area is on the lower level of the Barbara Jordan Terminal. After landing, passengers walk from their gate to the central baggage claim area. International arrivals are processed through U.S. Customs and Border Protection in the East wing before reaching baggage claim. The recently expanded international arrivals facility offers more carousels, queuing space and processing booths.
Ground Transportation from Arrivals
Baggage claim carousels are on the lower level. From there you can access the CapMetro Route 20 bus (neon guitar bus stop directly outside), hotel shuttles, taxis and the Rental Car Facility. For ride-share pick-up (Uber/Lyft), follow signs to the Rental Car Facility behind the Red Garage — pick-up is on Level 2. A free Mobility Tram on the Red Garage Level 3 also connects to the Rental Car Facility daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Austin Airport Map — Departures
Departing passengers should enter the Barbara Jordan Terminal on the upper level via curbside drop-off or the parking garage walkways. Check in at your airline’s ticket counter, then proceed to the nearest security checkpoint. After clearing security, you are in the single continuous concourse and can walk freely to any gate. All dining, shopping and lounges are located in the post-security gate areas.
Recommended Arrival Times
AUS recommends arriving at least 2.5 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours before international flights. During high-traffic events like SXSW (March), the Formula 1 Grand Prix (October) and ACL Festival (October), security lines can extend well beyond the terminal — add extra time. Check-in counters typically close 45–60 minutes before departure.
Insider Tips
Austin’s airport is famous for live music — catch a free set near Gate 19 while you wait. Don’t miss the Salt Lick BBQ between Gates 20 and 21 for authentic Texas brisket. Checkpoint 2 West is PreCheck/CLEAR only and stays open until the last flight — use it if you have either programme. The neon guitar CapMetro bus stop is the cheapest ride downtown ($1.25). During F1 weekend and SXSW, the airport regularly sees its busiest days of the year — plan accordingly. Refer to the Austin Airport map above to plan your route through the terminal.
