Hollywood Burbank Airport is located approximately 12 miles (19 km) northwest of downtown Los Angeles and 3 miles northwest of downtown Burbank. Burbank Airport Terminals
Hollywood Burbank Airport has two terminals — Terminal A and Terminal B — housed in the same building. Originally built in 1930, the terminal building is compact and easy to navigate. Both terminals share a central core, allowing passengers to walk between them airside without re-clearing security. Each terminal has its own entrance, ticket counters, security checkpoint, baggage claim area and gates.

Burbank Airport Security Checkpoints
Each terminal at Hollywood Burbank Airport has its own TSA security checkpoint on the upper level. BUR is known for fast-moving security lines compared to larger LA-area airports. TSA PreCheck lanes are available at all checkpoints. There are no CLEAR lanes or Global Entry enrollment centres at BUR.
Burbank Airport Terminal A — Southwest Airlines
Burbank Airport Terminal A is the larger of the two terminals, with nine gates (A1–A9). It is the home base for Southwest Airlines at BUR — one of Southwest’s busiest stations in Southern California, with over 50 daily departures to cities including Las Vegas, Oakland, Sacramento, Phoenix and Denver.
Southwest uses ramp boarding at BUR — passengers walk across the tarmac to board. Wear appropriate footwear and be prepared for sun or wind. The children’s play area in Terminal A is popular with families during waits.
Burbank Airport Terminal B — All Other Airlines
Burbank Airport Terminal B has five gates (B1–B5) and serves all airlines other than Southwest. Despite its compact size, Terminal B handles flights from Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Spirit and United, connecting BUR to hubs across the western and central United States.
Terminal B is compact but well-equipped. With only five gates, walking distances are short — you can reach any gate within two minutes of clearing security. Ride-share pick-up is on the ground transportation island directly across from the Terminal B entrance.
Walking Between Terminals on the Burbank Airport Map
Unlike many multi-terminal airports, Hollywood Burbank Airport makes it easy to move between terminals. Terminal A and Terminal B are part of the same building, connected through a shared airside corridor. Once you clear security at either checkpoint, you can walk to any of the 14 gates (A1–A9 or B1–B5) without leaving the secure zone. The full walk from one end of Terminal A to the far end of Terminal B takes under five minutes.
This means you do not need to worry about clearing security twice if your gate changes or if you want to visit a restaurant in the other terminal. However, note that each terminal has its own check-in counters and baggage claim, so be sure to enter through the correct terminal entrance for your airline when you first arrive.
Getting to Burbank Airport
Burbank Airport is the only airport in the Los Angeles area with a direct rail connection to Downtown LA. All bus services depart from the Regional Intermodal Transportation Center (RITC) across from the terminal.

Burbank Airport Map — Arrivals
If you are arriving at Burbank Airport or meeting a passenger, the arrivals area is on the ground level of the terminal. After landing, passengers walk from their gate (or across the tarmac for Southwest ramp-disembark flights) into the terminal and down to the ground-level baggage claim. Terminal A and Terminal B each have their own baggage claim carousels — check the flight information screens to find yours.
Ground Transportation from Arrivals
From baggage claim, exit through the ground-level doors to find taxis and ride-share pick-up on the transportation islands directly in front of the terminal. The RITC — housing rental cars, Metro Bus and BurbankBus — is across from the terminal and connected by an elevated walkway. If someone is picking you up by car, direct them to the cell phone waiting lot at 2627 N Hollywood Way, where they can wait for free until you are ready for curbside collection.
Burbank Airport Map — Departures
Departing passengers should arrive at the terminal via curbside drop-off or the parking structure walkway on the upper level. Head to your airline’s ticket counter — Southwest in Terminal A, all other airlines in Terminal B — then proceed to the security checkpoint for your terminal. After clearing security, follow the signs to your gate. Because both terminals connect airside, you can walk to any gate regardless of which checkpoint you used.
Recommended Arrival Times
Hollywood Burbank Airport recommends arriving at least 90 minutes before your flight. BUR is famous for short security lines, but allow extra time during peak periods (Monday mornings, Friday evenings, holidays). Elevate BUR — New Replacement Terminal
Hollywood Burbank Airport is undergoing a generational transformation. The Elevate BUR project is a $1.3 billion replacement passenger terminal under construction on the northeast side of the airport. The new 355,000-square-foot building will feature 14 gates, a single consolidated TSA checkpoint, modern concessions, larger holdrooms, full ADA compliance, seismic resilience and 900 EV-capable parking stalls in a new garage. Construction topped out in January 2025 and the terminal is scheduled to open in October 2026. The current terminal remains fully operational throughout construction, and once the new terminal opens, the old 1930s building will be demolished.

BUR is one of the easiest airports in Southern California — no long shuttle rides, no massive terminals to navigate. Arrive 90 minutes early and you’ll have time to spare. Southwest passengers should be prepared for ramp boarding (walking across the tarmac) — wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. Economy Lot A is the best-value on-site parking at $13/day. If you are heading to Universal Studios Hollywood, the park is only 4 miles away — many nearby hotels offer free shuttles to both the airport and Universal.
