Düsseldorf Airport Map

The Düsseldorf Airport map below shows the full layout of Düsseldorf International Airport (DUS/EDDL). DUS handled 21 million passengers in 2025, surpassing the post-pandemic record set the previous year and claiming first place in the Skytrax Best Regional Airport in Europe category. It is the primary hub for Eurowings and a focus city for dozens of other carriers, serving routes across Europe and into Africa, the Middle East and North America.

As the Düsseldorf Airport map shows, the airport is unusually compact for its size. Three terminals — A, B and C — sit within a single connected building linked by a central spine. Walking the full length takes about 15 minutes. There are no remote satellites or shuttle buses between terminals. The free SkyTrain automated people mover connects the terminal building to the Fernbahnhof long-distance rail station and to car parks P4 and P5.

Düsseldorf Airport Location Map

Düsseldorf Airport is located in the Lohausen district, approximately 8 kilometres (5 miles) north of Düsseldorf city centre. It sits adjacent to the A44 motorway and within easy reach of the wider Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region — home to around 18 million people within a 100 km radius, making it one of the most densely populated catchment areas of any airport in Europe.

Düsseldorf Airport Terminals

Although officially called Terminal A, Terminal B and Terminal C, the three terminals at Düsseldorf Airport are essentially three concourses within a single building. There is no need to use any transport between them — all are connected airside by interior corridors, and the walk from one end to the other takes roughly 15 minutes. Check-in is handled through a common central hall shared across all departures. After security, the building divides into a Schengen zone (mainly gates A and B) and a non-Schengen zone (mainly gates C, plus parts of A).

Terminal A

Terminal A opened in 1977, was destroyed in the 1996 fire and rebuilt, reopening in 1998. It holds 16 gates (A01–A16) and is the dedicated home of Lufthansa, Eurowings and their Star Alliance partners. Two Lufthansa lounges are located here. Terminal A handles a mix of Schengen and non-Schengen departures.

Terminal A covers both Schengen and non-Schengen departures depending on the route. Check your boarding pass for the correct security lane. All gates are within a 10-minute walk of the security checkpoint.

Terminal B

Terminal B opened in 1973 and also had to be fully rebuilt after the 1996 fire, reopening in 2001. It has 11 gates (B01–B11) and primarily handles Schengen EU flights operated by SkyTeam and Oneworld carriers, as well as leisure airlines. A contract lounge and former observation deck (closed since 2020) are located here.

Terminal C

Terminal C opened in 1986 and was the least affected by the 1996 fire, reopening the same year. Its 8 gates (C01–C08) are used exclusively for non-Schengen international flights by non-Star Alliance airlines, with Turkish Airlines being the one exception to this rule. Terminal C is the only part of the airport that can accommodate an Airbus A380 — one gate position has three jet bridges. It has direct access to the Maritim Hotel in the adjacent Airport City complex, along with airport and Emirates lounges.

Terminal C is adjacent to the Airport City retail and hotel complex. It handles all A380-capable wide-body operations at DUS. The SkyTrain stop at Terminal C connects directly to the Fernbahnhof and P4/P5 parking.

Düsseldorf Airport Security

The main check-in hall is shared across all airlines and terminals. After check-in, passengers follow signs to the correct security lane based on their destination. Schengen departures (most flights within the EU) proceed to gates in Terminals A and B. Non-Schengen departures (long-haul and non-EU international) proceed to Terminal C and some gates in Terminal A. Passport control applies to non-Schengen passengers.

In 2024, Düsseldorf Airport’s Off-Block quality initiative achieved a remarkable result: 97 percent of passengers cleared security in under 10 minutes. Fast Track lanes are available for business and first class passengers and eligible frequent flyers.

🔒 Schengen Checkpoint
For EU and Schengen area flights (mainly gates A and B). Standard and Fast Track lanes available.
🔒 Non-Schengen Checkpoint
For non-EU international flights (mainly Terminal C, some A). Passport control required. Allow extra time.
⏱️ Recommended Arrival Times
Domestic / Schengen: 1.5–2 hours before. International: 2.5–3 hours before. Peak times: Monday mornings and summer weekends.
📌 All Gates Within 10 Minutes
Every gate in the building is within a 10-minute walk of the security checkpoint. No satellite terminals or bus gates.
💡
Tip: Monday mornings see the heaviest business traveller traffic at DUS. If your flight departs early on a Monday, arrive at least 30 minutes earlier than usual. The single terminal building means there is no need to re-clear security when moving between terminals after check-in.

Getting Between Terminals on the Düsseldorf Airport Map

Unlike many major airports, Düsseldorf has no inter-terminal bus or train. All three terminals connect airside through internal corridors with moving walkways. Walking from Terminal A to Terminal C — the full length of the building — takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Clear overhead signage guides passengers throughout. For connections between flights, the real transfer time between gates rarely exceeds 20 minutes.

🚆 Inside the terminal: All 35 gates in Terminals A, B and C are connected by interior corridors and moving walkways. End-to-end walk: ~15 minutes. No bus transfers needed. After security, every gate is within a 10-minute walk. Minimum connection time at DUS is typically 45 minutes.

Getting to Düsseldorf Airport

Düsseldorf Airport is exceptionally well connected to the rail network. There are effectively two train stations serving the airport: the S-Bahn Terminal station directly beneath the building and the Fernbahnhof long-distance station about 2.5 km away, connected by the free SkyTrain.

The SkyTrain

The SkyTrain is a fully automated, elevated people mover that connects Terminal C and the Terminal A/B stop to car parks P4 and P5 and on to the Fernbahnhof (long-distance rail station). The full journey from terminal to Fernbahnhof takes about 6 to 7 minutes. A short-distance VRR public transport ticket is required, unless you hold a valid parking ticket, Deutschlandticket, Rail&Fly ticket or DüsseldorfCard. Note that luggage carts cannot be taken on the SkyTrain.

🚇 S-Bahn S11 (under terminal)
Departs from directly below the terminal building. Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof: ~12 min. Runs every 20 minutes.
🚇 Fernbahnhof (via SkyTrain)
ICE to Cologne: 15–20 min. Frankfurt Airport: ~60 min. Amsterdam: ~2.5 hrs. SkyTrain runs every 5–7 min, 03:45–00:45 daily.
🚕 Taxi & Ride-Share
Taxi ranks directly outside Terminals A/B and C. City centre: 15–25 min, approx. €25–€35. Ride-hailing apps (Uber, Free Now) have designated pick-up zones.
🚗 Car Rental
Several major car rental agencies are located in the car rental garage directly opposite the Terminal A/B drop-off area.
💡
SkyTrain hours: The SkyTrain runs daily from 03:45 to 00:45. Outside those hours, a replacement bus service operates. Note that luggage trolleys cannot be taken on the SkyTrain — transfer your bags to your hands before boarding at the terminal stop.

Düsseldorf Airport Map — Arrivals

Passengers arriving on Schengen flights deplane at gates in Terminal A or B and walk through the secure zone to baggage claim, then exit into the arrivals hall. Non-Schengen arrivals deplane at Terminal C and pass through passport control and customs before entering the arrivals area. Ground transport for all arrivals is on the departures level access road, with taxis, ride-share, and bus stops clearly signposted. For the S-Bahn or SkyTrain, follow the green train signs from the arrivals hall.

Ground Transport from Arrivals

From the arrivals hall, the S-Bahn S11 station is directly below the terminal building. The SkyTrain to the Fernbahnhof departs from the Terminal C level and the Terminal A/B level, and takes about 7 minutes to reach the long-distance rail station. Taxi ranks are located directly outside both the Terminal A/B and Terminal C arrivals exits.

Düsseldorf Airport Map — Departures

All departures begin in the shared central check-in hall. Confirm your terminal (A, B or C) and whether your flight is Schengen or non-Schengen before joining the security queue, as the departure zones are separate after security. Gate assignments display on screens throughout the building and on your airline’s app. Allow at least 10 minutes to reach any gate once through security.

Recommended Arrival Times

Schengen and domestic flights: arrive at the airport 1.5 to 2 hours before departure. Non-Schengen and long-haul international flights: arrive 2.5 to 3 hours before departure. During peak periods (summer school holidays, Christmas, Monday mornings), add 30 minutes. Check-in counters typically close 45 minutes before departure.

Insider Tips

DUS is one of Europe’s most compact major airports — no bus transfers, no satellite buildings, no long walks to gates. The S11 S-Bahn under the building is often the fastest way into the city centre, but the Fernbahnhof via SkyTrain opens up the full German rail network and is worth the extra few minutes for longer journeys. If your SkyTrain stop is Terminal C, that is also the entrance closest to the Maritim Hotel for a late-night or early-morning stay. Pre-booking parking at P4 or P5 means your parking ticket doubles as a SkyTrain ticket, saving a small amount on each trip. Refer to the Düsseldorf Airport map above to plan your route before you travel.
