Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is located about 3 miles (5 km) southwest of downtown Fort Lauderdale and 21 miles (34 km) north of Miami. Fort Lauderdale Airport Terminals Overview
Fort Lauderdale Airport has four active terminals arranged in a horseshoe shape, each identified by a number and a colour. Terminals are numbered 1 through 4, with a total of seven concourses (A, B, C, D, E, F and G) and 67 gates. Each terminal has its own departures level (Level 2) with ticket counters and security, and an arrivals level (Level 1) with baggage claim and ground transportation.
Fort Lauderdale Airport Security Checkpoints
Each of the four terminals at Fort Lauderdale Airport has its own security checkpoints on the departures level (Level 2). You must enter through the terminal that matches your airline — there is no single centralised security area. TSA PreCheck lanes are available in all terminals.
Getting Between Terminals
Fort Lauderdale Airport Terminal 1 (Yellow)
Terminal 1 is the largest and newest terminal at Fort Lauderdale Airport, located at the eastern end. As shown on the Fort Lauderdale Airport map, it houses three concourses and connects directly to the Hibiscus Garage and Rental Car Center.
Concourse A handles some international flights with customs capability. Terminal 1 underwent a $300 million renovation and expansion and offers modern amenities including USB charging, nursing rooms and pet relief areas.
Fort Lauderdale Airport Terminal 2 (Red)
Terminal 2 is the smallest terminal at FLL, located at the northwest corner of the airport. It serves Delta Air Lines and a handful of other carriers through a single concourse.
Terminal 2 connects to Terminal 1 via an interior corridor on the secure side, so passengers can walk between Terminals 1 and 2 without re-clearing security.
Fort Lauderdale Airport Terminal 3 (Purple)
Terminal 3 is at the western end of the airport and is one of the busiest terminals, home to JetBlue and American Airlines. It is connected to Terminal 4 by an airside pedestrian bridge.
The pedestrian bridge to Terminal 4 means passengers with connections between Terminals 3 and 4 do not need to re-clear security (except for international arrivals). JetBlue is FLL’s largest carrier by seat capacity.
Fort Lauderdale Airport Terminal 4 (Green)
Terminal 4 is the main international gateway at Fort Lauderdale Airport, located at the southwestern tip. It houses U.S. Customs and Border Protection and is connected to Terminal 3 by the airside bridge.
Most international arrivals from the Caribbean, Latin America and beyond clear customs in Terminal 4. Terminal 5 (under construction, mid-2026) will connect to Terminal 4 via a pedestrian bridge.
Walking Between Terminals on the Fort Lauderdale Airport Map
Unlike some larger airports with a central train, Fort Lauderdale Airport relies on free courtesy shuttle buses and walkable sidewalks to connect its four terminals. The terminals are arranged in a horseshoe, and you can walk between any two on the public sidewalk in roughly 10 minutes.
Airside Connections
Terminals 1 and 2 are connected by an interior corridor on the secure side, so you can walk between them without re-clearing security. Terminals 3 and 4 are connected by a pedestrian bridge that also operates within the secure zone. However, there is no airside connection between Terminals 2 and 3 — if your connection requires moving between these terminals, you will need to exit to the landside, take the courtesy shuttle or walk, and re-clear security at your departure terminal. Allow at least 45–60 minutes for cross-terminal connections that require re-screening.

Fort Lauderdale Airport Parking
FLL offers over 12,000 parking spaces across three on-site garages, overflow lots and curbside valet. All garages are within walking distance of the terminals via covered walkways.
Fort Lauderdale Airport Map — Arrivals
If you are arriving at Fort Lauderdale Airport or meeting a passenger, head to the arrivals level (Level 1) of the relevant terminal. After landing, passengers deplane at their gate, follow signs to baggage claim on Level 1, and proceed to ground transportation outside. International arrivals go through U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Terminal 4 (or Terminal 1 for select flights) before collecting bags.
Ground Transportation from Arrivals
Each terminal has its own baggage claim carousels on Level 1. Outside the arrivals doors, you will find taxi/ride-share pick-up zones, courtesy shuttle stops (for inter-terminal transfers and the Rental Car Center), hotel shuttles and the Brightline airport connector shuttle. The Tri-Rail free shuttle also stops on the arrivals level. If picking someone up by car, use the free cell phone waiting area near the airport entrance and collect your passenger from the arrivals kerb.

Departing passengers should enter their airline’s terminal on Level 2 via the upper roadway or parking garage walkways. Check in at the ticket counters, drop bags, then proceed through that terminal’s security checkpoint to reach your concourse and gate. Make sure you enter the correct terminal — unlike some airports, FLL does not have a single centralised security area.
Recommended Arrival Times
Arrive at least 90 minutes before domestic flights and 2–3 hours before international flights. During peak cruise season (October–April) and major holiday weekends, add an extra 30 minutes as both security lines and parking garages get busier. Gate assignments are displayed on flight information screens throughout each terminal and on your airline’s app.

South Florida traffic is unpredictable — budget extra drive time during rush hour (7–9 a.m. and 4–7 p.m.) on I-95 and I-595. FLL is popular with cruise passengers connecting to Port Everglades, so expect higher volumes from October through April.
