Honolulu Airport Map
The Honolulu Airport map below shows the full layout of Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL/PHNL), the primary gateway to the Hawaiian Islands. HNL handles over 22 million passengers per year with nonstop service across North America, Asia and Oceania. It is the main hub for Hawaiian Airlines and a key base for Southwest Airlines, United Airlines and many international carriers.
As you can see on the Honolulu Airport map, HNL has three terminals connected by roadways, walkways and the free Wiki Wiki shuttle. Terminal 1 sits on the west (ʻEwa) side, Terminal 2 occupies the centre, and the small Terminal 3 is on the east (Diamond Head) side. Study the HNL airport map before you travel so you know which terminal and concourse your airline uses.

Honolulu Airport Terminal 1 — Hawaiian Airlines & Southwest
Terminal 1 (formerly the Interisland Terminal) sits on the ʻEwa (west) side of the airport. It is the home base for Hawaiian Airlines — handling both inter-island and U.S. mainland flights — and Southwest Airlines. The terminal was recently renovated with improved seating areas, more dining options and a distinctly Hawaiian design with natural light and open spaces.
Security checkpoints 1A (Mauka, as needed) and 1B (Makai, 4:15 a.m.–11:30 p.m.) serve Terminal 1. LiDAR-powered wait-time displays are live on the electronic boards. The Wiki Wiki shuttle connects Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 post-security.
Honolulu Airport Terminal 2 — International & Domestic
Terminal 2 (formerly the Overseas Terminal) is the largest terminal at HNL. It handles all international arrivals and departures as well as most domestic mainland flights. The terminal has three main concourses — the ʻEwa Concourse (C gates), the Central Concourse (D, E and F gates) and the Diamond Head Concourse (G gates) — plus the famous open-air garden court area with Hawaiian, Chinese and Japanese gardens.
Terminal 2 has four security checkpoints: CP 2 (as needed), CP 3 (4:15 a.m.–11:30 p.m., up to 6 lanes), CP 4 (8:30 a.m.–1 p.m., family lane), and CP 5 (5:15 a.m.–9 p.m.). TSA PreCheck is available at CP 3 and CP 5. Two A380-capable gates support widebody international flights.
Honolulu Airport Terminal 3 — Commuter Flights
Terminal 3 is a small standalone terminal on the Diamond Head (east) side of the airport, used exclusively by Mokulele Airlines for inter-island commuter flights on small turboprop aircraft. It has a single gate (H1), one baggage claim area and no post-security amenities. Reach Terminal 3 via the free shuttle bus from terminals 1 and 2 (~5 min from Terminal 2).
Terminal 3 is minimal — no shops, restaurants or lounges. Arrive 75 minutes before departure. The free inter-terminal shuttle runs approximately every 10 minutes.
Honolulu Airport Security Checkpoints
HNL has six TSA security checkpoints spread across terminals 1 and 2. Checkpoint hours and lane counts vary by day and passenger volume. Terminal 1 now has LiDAR-powered electronic displays showing real-time wait times; Terminal 2 will receive the same displays after Checkpoint 3 improvements are completed in late 2026.
Getting Between Terminals on the Honolulu Airport Map
Unlike single-terminal airports, HNL’s three terminals require planning to move between them. The free Wiki Wiki shuttle is the primary link, running buses and new electric trams between all terminals and concourses. The shuttle operates daily and stops on Level 3 (except concourses C and G, where it stops on Level 2).
Wiki Wiki Shuttle & Walking Connections
Connection Times
Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 on foot takes about three minutes via the post-security walkway. Terminal 2 is large — walking from Concourse C (ʻEwa end) to Concourse G (Diamond Head end) can take up to 10 minutes, or take the Wiki Wiki shuttle (2–3 minutes). Terminal 3 is about 600 metres east of Terminal 2 and is best reached by shuttle (~5 minutes). For connecting flights within the U.S., you remain in the secure zone and do not need to re-clear security.
Getting to Honolulu Airport
Ground transportation departs from Level 1 (ground level) of terminals 1 and 2. The Skyline rail station and W Line bus stop are near Terminal 2. Check the latest routes and fares at airports.hawaii.gov/hnl.
Honolulu Airport Parking
HNL has three on-site parking garages with a total of 5,338 spaces. All garages are open 24/7 with a 30-day parking limit. Reservations are not available — parking is first-come, first-served. Real-time availability is displayed on LED signs at garage entrances and on the HNL website and app.
Honolulu Airport Map — Arrivals
Arriving passengers at Honolulu Airport collect baggage on Level 1 (ground level). Domestic arrivals in Terminal 1 proceed to baggage claims 1–6. Terminal 2 has baggage claim areas D, E, F, G and H on Level 1. International arrivals clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Terminal 2’s international arrivals area on Level 1 before accessing baggage claim and ground transportation.
Ground Transportation from Arrivals
From baggage claim, ride-share pick-up areas are on Level 1 curbside. The Skyline Lelepaua Station is between the International Parking Garage and Terminal 2 Parking Garage, accessible via ground level or the fourth floor of either garage. The W Line bus stop is directly across from the station near the lei stands on Ala Onaona Street. Rental car shuttles depart from Level 1 to the CONRAC facility. If picking someone up, use the free cell phone waiting lots on Aolele Street (Diamond Head) or Service Road A (ʻEwa).
Honolulu Airport Map — Departures
Departing passengers enter the airport on Level 2 (departure level) of their terminal. In Terminal 1, Hawaiian Airlines and Southwest check-in counters are in the main lobby. In Terminal 2, airline ticketing is split across five lobby areas (Lobbies 4–8). After check-in, proceed to the appropriate security checkpoint on Level 2, then down to the gate level for your concourse.
Recommended Arrival Times
Arrive at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights. Terminal 2 is large and security queues can be long during peak morning hours (5–8 a.m. for Asia-bound flights). Gate assignments are shown on flight information displays throughout both terminals and on the free HNL Airport app.
Insider Tips
Don’t miss the tranquil C.B. Lansing Garden between terminals 1 and 2 on the ground level — a hidden gem with Hawaiian, Chinese and Japanese gardens accessible without re-clearing security. The USDA agricultural inspection for mainland-bound flights can add 10–15 minutes — no fresh fruit, plants or certain foods are allowed off the islands. Download the free HNL Airport app for real-time parking counts, security wait times and turn-by-turn navigation inside the terminals. If you’re heading to Waikīkī on a budget, the W Line bus from the Skyline station costs just $3 and runs every 10 minutes.
