Liverpool Airport Map
The Liverpool Airport map below shows the full layout of Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL/EGGP). LPL recorded 5.6 million passengers in 2025 — the busiest year in its history and an 11% increase on 2024 — driven by the continued growth of easyJet, Ryanair and Jet2. The airport sits on the south bank of the River Mersey estuary near Speke, about 7.5 miles (12 km) southeast of Liverpool city centre, and serves as an operating base for easyJet and Ryanair, with eight airlines flying to over 75 destinations across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
As you can see on the Liverpool Airport map, the layout is refreshingly simple: a single terminal building handles everything — check-in, security, departures, arrivals and baggage reclaim — spread across three levels. There are no inter-terminal transfers and no jet bridges. All passengers walk across the apron to board aircraft. Study the LPL airport map so you know which level to head to and where your gate is before you arrive.

Liverpool Airport Terminal
Liverpool John Lennon Airport operates a single passenger terminal with a capacity of 7 million passengers a year. All airlines, all flights and all services — arrivals and departures, domestic and international — are handled in the same building. Navigation is among the simplest of any major UK airport: follow the orange Departures signs upstairs from check-in, or the green Arrivals signs when you land. There are no jet bridges or travelators at Liverpool. Passengers walk across the apron in all weather conditions to board and disembark aircraft.
The terminal was opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 2002, replacing and greatly expanding the previous facility. The original 1930s Art Deco terminal building, famous for its terraces packed with fans watching early Beatles flights, still stands nearby as the Crowne Plaza Liverpool John Lennon Airport Hotel. The check-in hall features a 7-foot bronze statue of John Lennon, and the airport’s motto — “Above us, only sky” — is painted on the roof. A permanent exhibition of Beatles photographs taken in India by Paul Saltzman can be found above the retail units in the departure lounge.
Ground Floor: Check-in, Arrivals and Baggage Reclaim
Check-in desks open 3 hours before departure and close 40 minutes before scheduled departure. If you are travelling with hand luggage only and have a mobile boarding pass, you can go straight up to security. The assisted travel desk (ABM) is on the ground floor opposite Starbucks.
Upper Levels: Security, Departure Lounge and Gates
The departure lounge has 2 phone charging pods, one before security and one airside. All gates are within a short walk from security — the furthest gate is reachable in under 10 minutes. Smoking is permitted in the designated outdoor area past the Kissing Gate Bar, clearly signposted.
Liverpool Airport Security
Security at Liverpool John Lennon Airport is on the upper level of the terminal, accessed from the check-in hall by escalators, lifts or stairs. There is a single security checkpoint for all passengers. New advanced security screening equipment was installed in 2025 as part of a multi-million pound investment, improving processing times for liquids and electronics. A Fast Track option is available from £5 per person when booked online in advance — useful during the peak morning rush, though Liverpool’s security is generally quicker than larger UK airports.
Liverpool Airport Aspire Executive Lounge
The Aspire Executive Lounge at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, operated by Swissport, opened in its current purpose-built form in October 2025. The new facility is more than three times the size of the previous lounge and can accommodate over 200 guests. It offers two tiers: the standard Aspire experience and a premium Luxe by Aspire option. The lounge is located airside in the departure lounge and is accessible to passengers with lounge passes, eligible credit card holders and those who book entry through the airport.
Airlines at Liverpool Airport
Eight airlines operate scheduled services from Liverpool John Lennon Airport in 2026. easyJet is the largest operator with nine based aircraft after adding a ninth in November 2025, followed by Ryanair and Jet2 as the other major carriers. Together the three primary operators account for the vast majority of flights, with routes spanning Spain, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Italy, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, North Africa, Eastern Europe and the Nordic countries.

Recommended Arrival Times
Arrive at least 2 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours before international departures. Check-in desks open 3 hours before departure and close 40 minutes before scheduled departure. During peak summer mornings and school holiday periods allow extra time for security. If you have hand luggage only and have checked in online, you can bypass check-in queues entirely and go straight to the security hall.
Insider Tips
Liverpool is one of the most compact and straightforward airports in the UK — from check-in to the gate typically takes under 15 minutes. Book Fast Track security online in advance if you are travelling with checked bags during summer months, but do not consider it essential outside peak periods. The free 40-minute Drop Off 2 car park is far better value than the Express Drop Off zone for any collection. There is no direct train to the terminal, so factor in the 86A bus leg when planning your journey from Liverpool South Parkway. easyJet and Ryanair together cover the most routes, but Jet2 is often the best option for package holidays to beach destinations. The Beatles exhibition above the airside retail units is worth a few minutes of your layover. Refer to the Liverpool Airport map above to plan your route through the terminal before you arrive.
