LAX Airport Map

The LAX airport map below shows the full layout of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX/KLAX). LAX handled 73.7 million passengers in 2025, making it the fifth-busiest airport in the United States and one of the busiest origin-and-destination airports in the world. It serves as a major hub or focus city for Delta, United, American, Alaska and Southwest, with over 70 carriers flying to 182+ nonstop destinations across 42 countries.

As you can see on the LAX airport map, the layout is a distinctive U-shape: nine passenger terminals line the outer curve with a double-level roadway running through the middle. Departures use the upper level and arrivals use the lower level. The Tom Bradley International Terminal (Terminal B) sits between Terminals 3 and 4 on the western end. Study the LAX terminal map before you travel to know which terminal your airline uses.

LAX Terminal Layout

LAX’s nine terminals form a horseshoe around a central roadway. Each terminal has two levels: the upper/departures level for check-in and drop-off, and the lower/arrivals level for baggage claim and pick-up. Parking garages sit inside the U, connected to terminals by pedestrian bridges. After clearing security, airside tunnels and elevated walkways connect most terminals — you can walk from Terminal 1 all the way through to Terminal 8 without leaving the secure area, a distance of roughly two miles.

Terminal Levels

The 2013 modernization cost $1.9 billion and added the Great Hall with sweeping architecture.

Walking Between Terminals on the LAX Airport Map

Unlike many U.S. airports, most LAX terminals are connected airside. After clearing security, you can walk between adjacent terminals through underground tunnels and elevated walkways without re-screening. The full walk from Terminal 1 to Terminal 8 covers roughly two miles and takes 35–45 minutes. On the landside, the free LAX Shuttle route A loops counter-clockwise around the Central Terminal Area every 10–15 minutes, stopping at all terminals on the lower/arrivals level.

Airside Connection Times

Adjacent terminals are typically 5–10 minutes apart on foot. The connector bridges between Terminal 3 and TBIT and between Terminal 4 and TBIT take about 5 minutes each. Allow at least 45–60 minutes for connections between terminals at opposite ends of the U (e.g. Terminal 1 to Terminal 8). The one terminal without an airside connection is the Regional Terminal, which is accessible only by shuttle bus from Terminal 4.

💡
Tip: If your connection requires changing terminals, stay airside whenever possible to avoid re-clearing security. Check the LAX airport map above to plan your walking route.

LAX Automated People Mover

🚆 Coming late 2026: The free Automated People Mover (APM) elevated train will connect terminals to Economy Parking, the Consolidated Rent-A-Car facility (ConRAC), and the LAX/Metro Transit Center. Six stations, 2.25-mile loop, trains every 2 min at peak. Currently in nighttime testing — no opening date confirmed as of March 2026.

Getting to LAX

All buses and shuttles depart from the lower/arrivals level of each terminal. Ride-share and taxis pick up at the dedicated LAX-it lot.

🚌 FlyAway Bus
Nonstop to Union Station (~35 min) and Van Nuys. $12.75 one-way. Every 15 min, 5 a.m.–11 p.m. Picks up at blue FlyAway columns, lower level.
🚆 Metro Rail
Free shuttle from terminals to LAX/Metro Transit Center. Transfer to C Line or K Line. $1.75 fare on TAP card. Shuttle every ~10 min.
🚕 Uber, Lyft & Taxis
Pick up at LAX-it lot (east of Terminal 1). Free shuttle or 5–15 min walk. Uber Black/Lyft Lux pick up at terminals. Downtown: $35–$80.
🚗 Rental Cars

LAX Airport Map — Arrivals

If you are arriving at LAX or meeting a passenger, the arrivals area is on the lower level of each terminal. After landing, passengers walk through the terminal to baggage claim on the lower level. International arrivals in Terminal B clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection before proceeding to baggage claim on Level 1 of TBIT.

Ground Transportation from Arrivals

Baggage carousels are on the lower level of each terminal. From there, you can access the LAX-it lot for Uber, Lyft and taxis (take the free green-signed shuttle or walk), FlyAway buses at the blue columns, Metro connector shuttles at the pink signs, and rental car shuttles. If picking someone up by car, use the free Cell Phone Waiting Lot on W 96th Street and collect your passenger from the lower-level outer curb.

LAX Airport Map — Departures

Departing passengers should enter on the upper/departures level, either via curbside drop-off or the parking garage walkways. Check in at your airline’s counter, then clear the security checkpoint in your terminal. After security, you can walk airside to your gate — or to a neighbouring terminal if needed. Check the LAX airport map above to confirm which terminal your airline uses.

Recommended Arrival Times

Arrive at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights. LAX is one of the busiest airports in the country — security lines at peak hours (early morning, late afternoon) can be significant. Check-in counters and bag drop desks typically close 45–60 minutes before departure. Use your airline’s app for real-time gate assignments.

Insider Tips

LA traffic is no joke — always add extra time when driving to LAX, especially during weekday rush hours (7–10 a.m. and 4–7 p.m.). The LAX-it walk from Terminals 1–3 is manageable but from Terminal 7/8 can take 10+ minutes; consider Uber Black for curbside pick-up. After security, the airside walk between all terminals gives you access to every restaurant and lounge in the airport. Terminal B (TBIT) has the best duty-free shopping. Refer to the LAX airport map above to plan your route before you arrive.
