Luton Airport Map & Terminal Guide 2026

Luton Airport Map
The Luton Airport map below shows the full layout of London Luton Airport (LTN/EGGW). LTN handled 16.7 million passengers in 2024, making it one of the five busiest airports serving London and the UK's fourth largest London gateway after Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted. The airport is the primary UK base for Wizz Air and serves as a major operating hub for easyJet and Ryanair, with routes covering 130+ destinations across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.
As the Luton Airport map shows, the layout is refreshingly straightforward for a major London airport. There is a single two-storey terminal building: the ground floor handles all check-in, arrivals and baggage reclaim, while the upper floor is entirely dedicated to the departures lounge and three gate piers. Study the LTN airport map before you travel so you know exactly where to head after security.

Luton Airport Location Map
London Luton Airport sits approximately 50 km (31 miles) north of central London, near the town of Luton in Bedfordshire, and around 3 km east of Luton town centre. The location map below shows LTN in relation to London and the surrounding motorway network. The M1 motorway provides the main road link, with Junction 10 giving direct access to the airport.
Luton Airport Terminal
London Luton Airport has a single terminal building, which makes navigation simple compared to multi-terminal London airports. The ground floor contains 62 check-in desks, a security screening area, the arrivals hall and baggage reclaim carousels. After clearing security on the ground floor, stairs and lifts lead up to the departures lounge on the upper floor, where all shops, restaurants, lounges and gate piers are located.
The terminal was significantly expanded and modernised in 2018 at a cost of around £160 million, adding new shops, gate piers and increased passenger capacity. Luton was one of the first major airports in the UK to install 100% next-generation CT security scanners, which allow liquids and laptops to remain in bags during screening.
Luton Airport Security
Security at Luton Airport is located on the ground floor of the terminal building, just beyond the check-in hall. All passengers pass through a single security area before ascending to the departures lounge. Luton Airport was an early adopter of next-generation CT scanner technology, meaning liquids and large electronics can stay inside your bag during screening rather than being removed into separate trays.
Fast Track security lanes are available for a fee and can be booked in advance online or purchased on the day. The airport also offers a free security slot booking service, letting you reserve a 30-minute security window up to 4 days before travel, available between 3am and 3pm. This can significantly reduce waiting times during busy morning periods.
Luton Airport Gates and Piers
All 30 departure gates at Luton Airport are on the upper floor of the terminal building, reached by stairs or lifts from the ground-floor security exit. The gates are divided across three piers. Because Luton has no airbridges, all aircraft are accessed by steps from the apron. Gate calls are displayed on flight information screens throughout the departures lounge — gates are not announced until 45 to 60 minutes before departure, so keep an eye on the screens.
Pier 1 is the largest of the three gate areas, handling the highest volume of departures. Gate assignments are displayed on screens in the lounge and are typically shown around one hour before departure.
Pier 2 sits between the two larger piers and handles a mix of carriers. All Luton gates are open-air stands, so expect to walk across the apron to board.
Pier 3 covers the longest gate range at Luton, with gates numbered 30 through to 43. Walk times from the top of the security stairs to the furthest gate can be 8 to 10 minutes.
Airlines at Luton Airport
Luton Airport is one of Europe's leading low-cost carrier hubs. Wizz Air is the largest airline by scheduled capacity at LTN, accounting for around 44.5% of all seat capacity in 2024. easyJet is the second largest with roughly 39% of capacity, and Ryanair holds around 13.5%. Jet2 launched its first Luton base in April 2025, adding 17 routes to leisure destinations including the Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, mainland Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Greece and Italy. Other airlines include TUI, FlyOne, SunExpress, El Al and Dan Air. Luton does not handle any scheduled long-haul services.
Airport Lounges at Luton
Luton Airport has two passenger lounges, both located in the departures lounge on the upper floor after security. The No1 Lounge and MyLounge can be booked in advance through the airport website or via lounge booking platforms. Both offer complimentary food and drinks, Wi-Fi, comfortable seating and a quieter environment away from the main gate areas. There is no airline-operated lounge at Luton due to the predominantly low-cost carrier mix.
Getting to Luton Airport
London Luton Airport benefits from excellent public transport links since the opening of the Luton DART in 2023. The DART connects the airport terminal directly to the national rail network at Luton Airport Parkway station, giving LTN one of the most seamless train-to-terminal connections of any UK airport.
Luton Airport Parking
London Luton Airport has four official on-site car parks. Pre-booking online at london-luton.co.uk can save up to 65% compared to on-the-day prices. All official car parks are Park Mark certified and patrolled 24 hours a day.
Luton Airport Arrivals
Arriving passengers disembark directly onto the apron via steps and are bussed or walked to the terminal building. Passengers arriving from outside the UK will clear UK Border Force passport control on the ground floor of the terminal. eGates are available for eligible ePassport holders. After passport control, proceed to baggage reclaim and then through UK Customs before entering the public arrivals hall.
Ground transportation from arrivals is available from the Ground Transport Hub directly outside the terminal exit. The Luton DART station is a short walk from the terminal entrance, connecting to Luton Airport Parkway and onward rail services to London.
Luton Airport Departures
Check in at one of the 62 desks on the ground floor, or use your airline's app for mobile boarding if your bag is already checked. Proceed to security on the ground floor, then follow signs up to the departures lounge. Gates are displayed on screens throughout the lounge once assigned, usually around 45 to 60 minutes before departure. All departure gates are accessed by steps to the apron.
Recommended Arrival Times
Arrive at least 2 hours before European and domestic flights. During the busy 4am to 9am window, queues at check-in and security can be substantial, so building in extra time is worthwhile. Check-in desks and bag drop typically close 40 minutes before departure. If your airline offers online check-in and you are travelling with hand luggage only, you can go straight to security.
Insider Tips
Luton is one of the more straightforward airports to navigate given its single terminal, but a few things are worth knowing. All boarding at LTN is via steps to the apron, so dress for the weather. The departures lounge can feel crowded during peak morning hours. Book your security slot online for free if you want to skip the queue. The Luton DART is genuinely fast — once you are through security at St Pancras and at the platform, you can be at the terminal in well under 35 minutes. Coaches are considerably cheaper than the train but are at the mercy of the M1, which can be slow during morning and evening rush hours. Refer to the Luton Airport map above to plan your route through the terminal before you arrive.
