Malaga Airport Map

The Malaga Airport map below shows the full layout of Málaga Costa del Sol Airport (AGP/LEMG). AGP handled an estimated 26.7 million passengers in 2025, breaking its own record set in 2024 and cementing its position as the fourth busiest airport in Spain. It is the primary international gateway for the Costa del Sol and the broader Andalusia region, with over 60 airlines operating routes to more than 100 cities across Europe and beyond. Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2, Vueling and British Airways are among the largest operators at the airport.

As the Malaga Airport map shows, the complex consists of three adjacent terminal buildings that operate under a unified single-terminal concept. Terminal 3 (T3) is the large, modern building opened in 2010 that processes virtually all passenger traffic today. It contains the main security checkpoint, the Cercanías train station on its lower level, and three departure piers: Pier B for non-Schengen flights, Pier C for mixed Schengen and non-Schengen traffic, and Pier D exclusively for Schengen area flights. Terminal 2 sits adjacent to T3 and is used for some domestic and Schengen services. Study the AGP airport map so you know which pier your flight departs from before you arrive.

Malaga Airport Terminals

AGP officially has three terminal buildings (T1, T2 and T3), but they are all physically connected and operate as one integrated airport. The practical reality for passengers is straightforward: you almost certainly start and finish your journey in Terminal 3.

Terminal 3 (T3) — The Main Terminal

Terminal 3 opened in March 2010 and handles the vast majority of passengers at Malaga Airport today. It is a spacious, light-filled three-storey building with an outdoor roof terrace on the departures level, one of very few public outdoor terraces at any major European airport. T3 contains the only operational security checkpoint for general passengers, all three departure piers (B, C and D), arrivals baggage reclaim, the Cercanías rail station on the lower level, and the bulk of the airport’s shops, restaurants and services.

Terminal 2 (T2)

Terminal 2 is the older building located directly adjacent to T3, designed by architect Ricardo Bofill and opened in 1991. Today it handles some Schengen and domestic flights, primarily operated by Iberia, Vueling and other carriers connecting via Madrid or Barcelona. T2 is connected to T3 via an internal walkway, so you can move between them without going outside. All passengers still pass through T3’s security checkpoint regardless of which terminal they check in at.

Terminal 1 (T1)

Terminal 1 is the oldest building at the airport. It currently handles a small volume of non-Schengen traffic and private aviation. Under AGP’s planned expansion, T1 is scheduled for demolition after 2027 as part of the construction of a brand-new terminal building on the west side of the second runway.

🚧
AGP Expansion (2026 update): Aena has approved a €1.5 billion expansion programme for Malaga Airport. Terminal space will nearly double from 80,000 to 140,000 square metres. Terminal 1 and Piers B and C will be demolished and replaced by a new non-Schengen pier with centralised border control. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027 and complete by 2031, targeting 36 million passengers per year. The airport will remain fully operational throughout. Project drafting begins in 2026; environmental permits are sought from 2028.

Malaga Airport Security

The main security checkpoint for all commercial passengers is located in Terminal 3 on the departures level (Floor 2). Whether you check in at T2 or T3, you will pass through this checkpoint. T1 and T2 have their own security lanes that open during peak congestion. Fast Track lanes are available in T3 for a fee, bookable online in advance or purchased at the airport on the day, subject to availability.

If your flight departs from Pier B or Pier C (non-Schengen destinations including the UK, Ireland and the United States), you will also pass through passport control and EU Entry/Exit System (EES) screening after security. This process adds significant time at busy periods. Current advice from experienced travellers is to allow at least 2.5 to 3 hours before departure for non-Schengen flights, especially in summer.

💡
Entry/Exit System (EES) from October 2025: All non-EU passengers arriving at or departing from Malaga Airport must now be registered in the EU Entry/Exit System. Pre-register using the Travel to Europe app before you fly to avoid delays at passport control. Queues at immigration for non-Schengen departures can be long during peak times. Allow 3 hours before your flight if travelling outside the Schengen area.

Malaga Airport Piers

After clearing security in T3, you access your gate via one of three departure piers. Each pier handles different flight types based on Schengen zone status. Check your boarding pass for your gate number and follow signs to the correct pier.

Malaga Airport Map — Arrivals

Arriving passengers on Schengen flights (from EU countries) deplane and proceed directly to baggage reclaim in T3 without any passport checks. Passengers arriving on non-Schengen flights (from the UK, Ireland, USA and other non-EU countries) must pass through UK Border Force or EU Entry/Exit System passport control in T3 before reaching baggage reclaim. All arrivals exit into the T3 arrivals hall on Floor 1, where taxis, buses, the train station and rental car desks are located.

Meeting Arriving Passengers

The arrivals hall in T3 is directly accessible to meeters and greeters. The train station entrance, taxi rank and express bus stop are all on the T3 forecourt. The Priority Parking area (part of the P2 zone near the train station) is the most convenient for picking up passengers, with the first 10 to 15 minutes free.

Malaga Airport Map — Departures

All departing passengers check in at T3 (or T2 for some domestic/Schengen services) and then pass through the single main security checkpoint in T3. From there, follow signs to your pier. Pier D is for Schengen and domestic flights. Piers B and C are for non-Schengen destinations: you will queue for passport control and EU EES biometric registration before reaching your gate. Gate assignments appear on departure screens throughout T3 and on your airline’s app.

Recommended Arrival Times at AGP

For Schengen and domestic flights, arriving 90 minutes before departure is usually sufficient outside peak season. For non-Schengen flights (UK, Ireland, USA, etc.) allow at least 3 hours due to immigration queues, particularly during summer. Check-in closes 45 to 60 minutes before departure on most airlines.

Insider Tips for Malaga Airport

Even if you arrive at the wrong terminal entrance, a 5-minute walk inside the connected complex gets you where you need to be. The outdoor roof terrace in T3 departures is a genuine highlight if you have time to spare before your flight. For food, the tapas bars on the departures level offer authentic Spanish cuisine at reasonable prices. If your layover is longer than 5 hours, take the C1 train into Málaga city (12 minutes) for a walk through the historic centre and return in time for your flight. Non-Schengen immigration queues (Piers B and C) form quickly after 06:00 and from mid-afternoon on busy summer days. The Fast Track lane in T3 is worth paying for if you are running late for a non-Schengen flight.
