Manchester Airport Map

The Manchester Airport map below shows the full layout of Manchester Airport (MAN/EGCC), the United Kingdom’s third busiest airport and the largest outside London. MAN handled 32.1 million passengers in 2025 and serves approximately 199 destinations worldwide across around 50 airlines. Following the completion of a decade-long, £1.3 billion transformation programme, the airport now operates two passenger terminals: Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Terminal 1 permanently closed for departures on 19 November 2025, with all its airlines relocated to the expanded Terminal 2.

As the Manchester Airport map shows, the layout is compact by international standards. Terminal 2, the new super terminal, sits at the centre of operations and handles roughly 80% of all passengers. Terminal 3, home exclusively to Ryanair, is the smaller terminal adjacent to the former Terminal 1 site. The Skylink covered walkway connects both terminals via The Station, the airport’s central rail, tram and bus interchange. Study the MAN airport map before you travel so you know which terminal your airline uses.

Manchester Airport Terminals

Manchester Airport entered 2026 with a fundamentally different layout to what passengers may remember. Terminal 1, the original 1962 building, is closed. Terminal 2 is now the airport’s main hub, more than doubled in size after years of construction, and Terminal 3 has a new entrance and refurbished facilities using space freed up by the Terminal 1 closure. Always check your boarding pass or airline app to confirm your terminal before you travel.

🚧
Major changes in 2026: Terminal 1 closed 19 November 2025. Terminal 3 received a new entrance (formerly the Terminal 1 entrance area) on 5 March 2026. All car parks switched to a P1–P16 numbered system from 5 March 2026. The Great Northern Market Hall food hall opened in Terminal 2 in early 2026. Two new lounges are opening in Terminal 2 mid-2026: The Executive by Escape Lounges (July 2026) and a new dedicated Emirates lounge. If your booking references Terminal 1, contact your airline to confirm your updated terminal.

Manchester Airport Terminal 2

Terminal 2 is the result of the £1.3 billion transformation and the main hub for virtually all passengers at Manchester Airport. Often called the super terminal, T2 has more than doubled in size and now handles around 80% of the airport’s traffic. The terminal features a modern glass atrium, two security halls fitted with next-generation CT scanners, an extensive shopping and dining High Street, two aircraft piers, and stands capable of accommodating the Airbus A380. Emirates operates its daily Dubai service from here using the A380, with Pier 2 fitted with double air bridges to handle the aircraft.

The layout puts check-in and bag drop on the upper arrivals level. After security you enter the departure lounge, organised as a long High Street with shops and restaurants on both sides leading to the gate areas in Pier 1 and Pier 2. The arrivals hall is on the ground floor, with baggage reclaim, customs and a direct overhead walkway to The Station for onward rail, tram and bus connections.

In Terminal 2, the route to D Gates involves a construction-related detour through temporary corridors that adds roughly 10–15 minutes. Check your gate early if assigned to that area. Gate numbers appear on flight information screens approximately 60–90 minutes before departure.

Great Northern Market Hall

One of the standout additions to Terminal 2 is the Great Northern Market Hall, the first street food hall of its kind inside a UK airport. Opened in early 2026, the 470-seat hall has six kitchens offering food side by side: Nashville Hot House (fried chicken), Black Iron Grill (smash burgers), Kouzina (Greek and Mediterranean), Las Casita (Mexican), Palms Cafe (pan-Asian), and Napoli Street Pizza. Manchester favourite Gooey provides cookies, doughnuts and coffee. Groups can order from different kitchens and share one big table together.

Manchester Airport Terminal 3

Terminal 3 is the smaller of the two active terminals, used exclusively by Ryanair. Originally opened in 1989 as Terminal A, it was redesignated Terminal 3 in 1998. In 2026 it entered a significant new phase. The existing Terminal 3 check-in and security area closed in October 2025 and all Ryanair flights moved to use the former Terminal 1 entrance and security facilities. That space was formally rebranded as Terminal 3 on 5 March 2026. The refurbishment adds a larger entrance, a remodelled security hall with new equipment, a 40% bigger departure lounge and new food and drink outlets including a 500-seat sports bar called Sporting Chance.

Terminal 3 is connected to Terminal 2 via the Skylink walkway through The Station. The walk takes approximately 10–15 minutes. If you are flying Ryanair, note the terminal entrance has moved: follow signs for Terminal 3 rather than looking for the old Terminal 3 entrance you may remember from a previous visit.

Manchester Airport Security

Terminal 2 has two security halls equipped with next-generation CT scanners. These reduce the need to remove liquids and electronics from bags, which speeds up queuing noticeably compared with older X-ray systems. Fast Track Security can be booked in advance online for approximately £5 to £7 and is available at both Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Terminal 3 has a newly refurbished security hall as part of the 2026 expansion work.

🔒 Terminal 3 Security
Refurbished security hall from 2026, using the former Terminal 1 security area. Fast Track available. Can get busy during peak Ryanair departure times.
⏰ When to Arrive
Arrive 2 hours before short-haul European flights and 3 hours before long-haul. Add 30 minutes during school holidays and peak summer Saturdays.
💡 Fast Track
Fast Track Security costs approximately £5–£7 when booked in advance. Queue pressure is highest during early morning bank holiday weekends.
💡
Tip: The D Gates area in Terminal 2 requires a slightly longer walk through a construction-related detour corridor. Check your gate as early as possible if you are assigned D1–D10. Allow an extra 10–15 minutes on top of your usual gate walk time.

The Skylink and The Station

The Skylink is an enclosed, elevated walkway system with moving travelators that connects Terminal 2 to The Station, the airport’s central transport interchange for trains, trams and coaches. From The Station, clearly signposted routes lead on to Terminal 3. The Skylink is the main pedestrian route between the two terminals and is covered throughout, which matters on a rainy Manchester day.

Getting to Manchester Airport

The Station sits between the two terminals and serves as the central hub for all public transport connections. It is reached from Terminal 2 via the Skylink and from Terminal 3 via a signposted walkway. Direct rail, tram and coach services all stop here, making it one of the best-connected airports in the UK.

🚆 Train
Direct services from Manchester Piccadilly: ~20 min, every 10–20 min (TransPennine Express and Northern). Direct trains also run to Liverpool (~70 min), Leeds (~80 min), Sheffield (~75 min), Edinburgh and Glasgow without changing in Manchester city centre.
🚊 Metrolink Tram
The Navy Line (Airport line) runs directly to Manchester city centre. Journey to St Peter’s Square: approximately 45–50 minutes. Operates from around 6 a.m. to midnight. No tram service between midnight and 3 a.m.
🚕 Taxi and Ride-Share
Taxis and Uber are available from the arrivals area at both terminals. City centre: approximately 25–45 min, £25–£40 depending on traffic.
🚌 Coach
National Express coaches serve Manchester Airport from cities across the UK including London, Birmingham and Bristol. Local Stagecoach bus 43 runs 24/7 to Piccadilly Gardens (50–70 min, cheapest surface option).

Manchester Airport Parking

From 5 March 2026 all Manchester Airport car parks use a new P1 to P16 numbered system replacing the previous names. If you booked before this date, your booking remains valid but the signs will show the new P-number. Pre-book at manchesterairport.co.uk to guarantee a space and save money, especially during peak summer periods and school holidays.

🅿 Multi-Storey (T2 and T3)
Closest self-park option, walkable to the terminal. T2 West Multi-Storey is now P3, a barrierless car park with no on-site pay machines — book online before you go. T3 Multi-Storey is P14.
🚘 Meet and Greet
T2 Meet and Greet is now P1. Drop your car at the terminal and a driver parks it for you. T3 Meet and Greet (P13) stopped taking new bookings in late March 2026; Drop and Go Express (P16) is now the alternative.
💰 Mid Stay
Mid Stay T3 (P15) is a walkable option with no shuttle needed, sitting between the Multi-Storey in price and convenience. A good choice for trips of 3–7 days.
🚌 JetParks and Budget Lots
JetParks 3 (also known as Ringway) is the budget long-stay option, connected by a shuttle bus. Free drop-off is available at JetParks 1, with up to 60 minutes at no charge. Forecourt drop-off starts at £5 for five minutes.
💡
Parking tip: T2 West Multi-Storey (P3) is barrierless. There are no pay machines on site. If you arrive without a booking, you must pay online by midnight the following day or face a £100 charge. Always check your booking confirmation for the correct P-number before travelling, as on-site signage has changed.

Manchester Airport Map — Arrivals

Arriving passengers at Terminal 2 proceed through immigration for international flights, collect bags from the reclaim belts in the ground-floor arrivals hall, and pass through customs before entering the public arrivals area. An overhead walkway connects directly to The Station for onward trains, trams and buses. At Terminal 3, the arrivals area is on the ground floor with baggage reclaim, customs and exits to taxis and the Skylink route to The Station.

Meeting a Passenger

If you are picking someone up by car at Terminal 2, you cannot wait on the forecourt drop-off zone. The correct pick-up point is within the Terminal 2 West Multi-Storey (P3): park, walk to the arrivals hall to meet your passenger, then return to the car together. The forecourt charge starts at £5 for five minutes and rises steeply. The free alternative is JetParks 1, where you can wait up to 60 minutes at no cost before taking the shuttle bus to arrivals.

Manchester Airport Map — Departures

Departing passengers should go directly to their correct terminal. Terminal 2 handles virtually all airlines. Terminal 3 handles Ryanair only. Check your boarding pass or airline app before you leave home, since a large number of airlines moved terminals in late 2025. Check-in counters and bag drop typically close 45–60 minutes before departure. Gate numbers appear on departure screens throughout the terminal approximately 60–90 minutes before the flight.

Recommended Arrival Times

The airport recommends arriving 2 hours before short-haul European flights and 3 hours before long-haul international flights. During peak periods, school holidays and early summer Saturday mornings, add at least 30 minutes. Terminal 3 can experience security queue pressure due to its compact layout, so arriving earlier is wise if you are flying Ryanair on a busy morning.

Insider Tips

Always double-check your terminal before you leave home — the 2025 changes moved many airlines and the old Terminal 1 reference on older bookings is no longer valid. The Skylink travelators between T2 and T3 have a history of going out of service, so budget extra time for inter-terminal connections. In Terminal 2, the D Gates detour through construction corridors can catch passengers off guard: check your gate assignment early and add 10–15 minutes to your walk. Fast Track Security is worth booking at T3 during busy periods given the compact layout. The train from The Station is by far the fastest and most reliable way into Manchester city centre and costs a fraction of a taxi. Refer to the Manchester Airport map above when planning your route so you arrive at the right terminal first time.
