One terminal, one active concourse, 23 gates. Everything you need to navigate Memphis International Airport (MEM) — Concourse B, security, Memphis airport parking and ground transport. Home of the FedEx Superhub.
Memphis Airport Map
The Memphis Airport map below shows the full layout of Memphis International Airport (MEM/KMEM), located seven miles southeast of downtown Memphis in Shelby County, Tennessee. MEM set an all-time passenger record in 2024 with 4.9 million origin-and-destination travellers. It is served by nine airlines offering nonstop flights to 36 destinations, averaging over 80 daily departures.
As you can see on the Memphis Airport map, the layout is compact: one terminal building with three landside ticketing halls (A, B and C) funnelling into a single Y-shaped airside concourse. Only Concourse B is active, with 23 gates handling every flight. MEM is also the global headquarters of the FedEx Express Superhub — the busiest cargo airport in North America and second busiest in the world.

Memphis Airport Location Map
Memphis International Airport is located approximately 12 miles (19 km) southeast of downtown Memphis, accessible via I-240 at exit 23B (Plough Boulevard/Jim McGehee Parkway) or via Winchester Road. The Memphis Airport location map below shows MEM’s position relative to the city, the Mississippi River and the surrounding road network.
Memphis Airport Terminal
Memphis International Airport has a single terminal building with two levels. The landside portion is divided into three ticketing halls — Terminal A, Terminal B and Terminal C — each with its own entrance, ticket counters and baggage claim area. All three halls connect to the same airside Concourse B, where every gate is located. Check your airline’s ticketing hall assignment before you arrive.

Memphis Airport Security Checkpoint
Memphis Airport has one main TSA security checkpoint, located past the Terminal B ticketing area on the upper level. After clearing security, all gates in Concourse B are accessible straight ahead. The checkpoint opens at 3:30 a.m. and includes TSA PreCheck lanes (opening at 4:00 a.m.).
Memphis Airport Concourse B
Concourse B is the only active airside concourse at Memphis Airport. Renovated in 2022 with wider hallways, higher ceilings and new concessions, it handles all 23 gates for every airline. The concourse is Y-shaped: the central stem and southeastern leg hold the renovated gates (B1–B23), while the southwestern leg (B27–B44) is used for non-pre-cleared international arrivals and customs processing.
Since all flights operate from Concourse B, there is no need to transfer between concourses. The walk from security to the furthest gate is under 10 minutes. Non-pre-cleared international flights are processed in the southwestern wing (Gates B27–B44).

Memphis Airport Map — Arrivals
Arriving passengers at Memphis Airport exit Concourse B and proceed to the baggage claim area on the lower level of their corresponding terminal hall (A, B or C — check the monitors for your carousel assignment). International arrivals that are not pre-cleared go through U.S. Customs and Border Protection in the southwestern wing of Concourse B before reaching baggage claim.
Ground Transportation from Arrivals
From baggage claim, taxis depart from the Concourse B commercial drive. Uber and Lyft pick-up is on the commercial drive outside each terminal exit. Rental car counters are in the Ground Transportation Center one level below — follow the “Rental Cars” signs. The MATA bus stop is on the inner commercial drive at baggage level.
Memphis Airport Map — Departures
Departing passengers should enter the terminal on the upper (ticketing) level via curbside drop-off or the Short-Term parking garage walkway. Check in at your airline’s assigned ticketing hall (A, B or C), then proceed to the TSA security checkpoint past Terminal B ticketing. After clearing security, walk directly into Concourse B to reach your gate.
Recommended Arrival Times
Arrive at least two hours before domestic flights. While MEM’s security is typically fast (often under 15 minutes), earlier arrival is wise during peak holiday periods. Check-in counters and bag drop desks typically close 45–60 minutes before departure. Gate assignments are shown on monitors throughout the terminal and on your airline’s app.
FedEx Superhub at Memphis Airport
Memphis International Airport is home to the FedEx Express global Superhub, the company’s main worldwide sorting facility. The Superhub can process 484,000 shipments per hour and operates roughly 250 daily flights, mostly between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. UPS also maintains a regional hub at MEM. The cargo operations are entirely separate from the passenger terminal — travellers will not encounter FedEx facilities during a normal trip, but you may notice heavy cargo aircraft activity at night.
Insider Tips
MEM is one of the easiest major airports to navigate — all gates are in a single concourse, security is rarely crowded, and the walk from check-in to your gate takes under 15 minutes. Try Central BBQ or Corky’s BBQ airside for legendary Memphis barbecue before your flight. The airport features live music performances, local art exhibitions and a meditation room in the main terminal. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout. If driving, the Economy lot ($9/day) connects to Terminal B via a covered walkway with moving sidewalks — it’s the best value for trips longer than a day.
