New Orleans Airport Terminal
MSY has a single terminal building that opened in November 2019 at a cost of $1.3 billion. Designed by César Pelli, the terminal’s curving roofline is said to evoke the winding Mississippi River. The building spans three levels, with all three concourses connected airside after one centralized security checkpoint — no trains or shuttles needed between gates.
Terminal Levels
New Orleans Airport Security Checkpoint
Unlike many airports, MSY has a single consolidated security checkpoint on Level 2, spanning the width of a football field. This means you only go through security once and then have walking access to all three concourses and every gate in the airport.
New Orleans Airport Concourse A
Concourse A is the westernmost concourse at MSY and the furthest from the security checkpoint. It handles all international arrivals, with U.S. Customs and Border Protection facilities on site. Concourse A also serves several domestic carriers on common-use gates.
International arrivals (British Airways from London Heathrow, Condor from Frankfurt, Copa from Panama City) are processed through customs here. The Club MSY lounge near Gate A1 is open to Priority Pass members and all passengers for a fee.
New Orleans Airport Concourse B
Concourse B is the middle concourse at MSY with 14 gates. It is home to Southwest Airlines — the largest carrier at MSY by passenger volume — and American Airlines.
Southwest is the busiest airline at MSY. Concourse B has some of the best local dining in the airport, including New Orleans chef-driven restaurants. Expect this concourse to be the most crowded during peak hours.
New Orleans Airport Concourse C
Concourse C is the easternmost and largest concourse at MSY with 15 gates. It is the primary hub for Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, plus JetBlue and Spirit Airlines.
Concourse C has the most shops and restaurants of any concourse at MSY. The Delta Sky Club near Gate C1 and the United Club near Gate C7 are both accessible to eligible passengers.
Walking Between Concourses on the New Orleans Airport Map
One of MSY’s biggest advantages is that all three concourses are connected by walkways on Level 2 after security. There is no train, shuttle or separate security checkpoint between concourses. Once you clear the single checkpoint, you can walk freely to any gate in the airport. This makes connections at MSY much simpler than at airports with separate terminals.
Walking Times Between Concourses
From the security checkpoint to the nearest gate in Concourse B is roughly a 3-minute walk. Reaching the far end of Concourse C takes about 7–8 minutes, and the far end of Concourse A (Gate A6) is approximately 10 minutes from the checkpoint. For connecting flights between far gates on different concourses, allow 15–20 minutes of walking time.

New Orleans Airport Map — Arrivals
If you are arriving at MSY or meeting a passenger, the arrivals area is on Level 1. After deplaning, walk through the concourse to the central area, ride the escalator down to Level 1, and collect your checked luggage at the baggage claim carousels (1–14). International arrivals from Concourse A clear U.S. Customs before reaching baggage claim.
Ground Transportation from Arrivals
Taxis and ride-shares are immediately outside Level 1 — taxis queue at Door 7, while Uber and Lyft have a designated pick-up zone nearby. Rental car shuttles depart from in front of the Long-Term Garage on Level 1 every few minutes. The RTA 202 bus and JeT E-1 bus depart from Level 1, Door 2. If you are picking someone up by car, use the free cell phone waiting lot at the corner of Airline Drive and Hollandey Street (up to one hour free), then collect your passenger from the Level 1 arrivals curb.

Departing passengers should enter the terminal on Level 3 via curbside drop-off on the west side or from the parking garage walkways. Check in at your airline’s ticket counter on Level 3, then proceed down to the consolidated security checkpoint on Level 2. After clearing security, walk to your concourse (A, B or C) — all are accessible on foot with clear signage overhead.
Recommended Arrival Times
Arrive at least 2 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours before international flights. During Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest and other major events, the airport recommends arriving even earlier. Check-in counters typically close 45 minutes before departure.
