Prestwick Airport Map
The Prestwick Airport map below shows the full layout of Glasgow Prestwick International Airport (PIK/EGPK). PIK is a compact, single-terminal airport serving the west of Scotland, located one nautical mile northeast of Prestwick town and approximately 32 miles southwest of Glasgow city centre. It is one of two international airports serving the region, alongside the larger Glasgow Airport (GLA). Ryanair has operated here for over 30 years and is the sole scheduled passenger airline, flying 10 European routes for Summer 2026 from two aircraft permanently based at the airport.
The Prestwick Airport map shows how straightforward the terminal layout is compared to larger UK airports: arrivals and baggage claim on the ground floor, check-in and security on Level 1, and gates plus all airside facilities on Level 2. The Prestwick International railway station is directly connected to the terminal via a covered walkway, making the airport the only one in Scotland with its own rail station.

Prestwick Airport Location Map
Glasgow Prestwick Airport sits on the Ayrshire coast, approximately 32 miles (51 km) southwest of Glasgow city centre and just over a mile from the town of Prestwick itself. The location map below shows PIK’s position in relation to Glasgow, Ayr and the surrounding area. The airport is accessible via the M77 motorway from Glasgow, which feeds onto the A77 dual carriageway, with the airport signposted from both. The A79 runs directly past the terminal building.
Prestwick Airport Terminal Layout
Glasgow Prestwick Airport has one terminal building spread across three floors. The layout is deliberately compact, designed so passengers can move from car park to gate in a short amount of time. There are no inter-terminal transfers, no airside trains and no long concourse walks. The entire passenger journey from kerb to gate takes place within a single, well-signposted building. Check-in counters are on Level 1, security is on Level 1, and all gates and airside facilities are on Level 2. The terminal has capacity for up to 3 million passengers annually.
Arriving passengers collect bags here and exit to the ground transportation area. The railway station covered walkway entrance is also accessed from this level, with trains departing from the adjacent Prestwick International station.
This is where your departure process begins. Check in at the Ryanair desks, drop any hold bags and proceed to the single security checkpoint. Ryanair recommends online check-in before arriving. The airport recommends allowing at least 3 hours before an international flight departure.
Once through security you are in the airside zone on Level 2. Gate assignments are posted on the departure screens after you clear security. The spectator gallery is free to enter and open 07:00 to 19:00 daily. Free WiFi is available throughout, with a 2-hour limit on the complimentary tier.
Prestwick Airport Security
Glasgow Prestwick Airport has a single security checkpoint on Level 1, accessed after check-in. The checkpoint uses standard TSA-equivalent UK security screening: remove liquids in a clear bag (max 100ml per item), laptops and large electronics out of bags, and coats and belts in the tray. The airport is compact so queues move quickly outside of peak periods. ePassport gates are available for eligible travellers on the airside side.
Airlines at Prestwick Airport
Ryanair is the only scheduled passenger airline operating from Glasgow Prestwick Airport. The airline has maintained a presence at PIK for over 30 years and has two aircraft permanently based at the airport, representing a fleet investment of around $200 million. All check-in at Prestwick is within a single zone on Level 1, with gate assignments confirmed after security on Level 2.
Ryanair added extra frequencies on Alicante, Faro, Pisa, Malaga and Murcia for Summer 2026. Lead-in fares start from £29.99. Book via the Ryanair app or ryanair.com.
Getting to Prestwick Airport
Prestwick is well connected to Glasgow and Ayrshire by both rail and road. The airport is the only one in Scotland with its own dedicated railway station, which sits directly beneath the terminal building connected by a covered walkway. For most passengers travelling from Glasgow, the train is the most reliable option.
Prestwick Airport Parking
Glasgow Prestwick Airport has three on-site car parks, all within walking distance of the terminal. Pre-booking online gives the best rates. All car parks are cashless and use automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) at entry and exit barriers. Blue Badge holders are permitted 30 minutes free for drop-off and collection; scan your badge at the exit barrier to activate this. Visit glasgowprestwick.com to pre-book parking.
Prestwick Airport Terminal Facilities
Despite being a compact regional airport, Prestwick offers a solid range of facilities for departing and arriving passengers. Shopping and eating options are available on both sides of security. Free WiFi runs throughout the terminal building. A prayer room is available airside. The spectator gallery on Level 2 offers panoramic views of the runway and is open seven days a week, 07:00 to 19:00, with free admission.
Shopping and Dining
Before security on Level 1, there are cafes and basic shops suitable for picking up provisions before your flight. After security on Level 2, the World Duty Free store offers the usual range of perfumes, spirits, cosmetics and tobacco at tax-free prices. There are also restaurants and bars airside. The range is smaller than at larger Scottish airports but sufficient for a pre-flight meal or drink.
WiFi, Charging and Other Services
Free WiFi is available throughout the terminal, including airside. Baby changing facilities are available throughout. Charging points are located in the airside seating areas on Level 2. There are no public shower facilities currently at PIK and no dedicated passenger lounge, though the seating areas are comfortable. Currency exchange is available on Level 1 before security. Luggage trolleys are available in the arrivals hall. There are no on-site luggage storage facilities.
Prestwick Airport Map — Arrivals
Arriving passengers land at one of the remote or pier gates, then board a bus or walk through a jet bridge into the terminal on Level 2. From there, follow the arrivals signage down to the ground floor for baggage claim. The arrivals hall is on the ground floor, where you will find baggage carousels, the information desk, car hire facilities (off-site collection), taxi rank and bus stops. Train access to Prestwick International station is via the covered walkway from the ground floor.
Ground Transportation from Arrivals
The taxi rank and bus stop are immediately outside the ground-floor arrivals exit. The X77 bus to Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station stops directly outside. For the train, follow signs through the covered walkway to Prestwick International station. Journey time to Glasgow Central is approximately 45 minutes. Platform signage in the station indicates northbound services to Glasgow and southbound services to Ayr.
Prestwick Airport Map — Departures
Departing passengers should go to Level 1 for check-in. Ryanair recommends completing check-in online before arriving at the airport. Once bags are dropped, proceed through the security checkpoint on Level 1. After clearing security you are on Level 2 with access to all gates, World Duty Free, restaurants and bars. Gate assignments appear on the information screens throughout the terminal.
Recommended Arrival Times
Glasgow Prestwick Airport recommends arriving at least 3 hours before your scheduled departure for all international flights. Check-in and bag drop typically close 40 minutes before departure. Even though the airport is compact, factor in time for parking, the car park walk, check-in queues and security. Early morning flights can be busy given Ryanair departure banks.
Prestwick Airport History
Prestwick has one of the most distinguished aviation histories of any regional UK airport. It began as a training airfield in 1934, and its location on the Ayrshire coast, which benefits from the lowest fog frequency in the British Isles, made it a critical transatlantic hub during the Second World War as part of the Atlantic Bridge route between North America and Europe. In 1945, American Overseas Airlines started the first regular transatlantic commercial flights between Prestwick and New York. Pan Am, BOAC, Air Canada and Northwest Airlines all used PIK as a transatlantic stop at various points.
Prestwick also has the distinction of being the only place in the United Kingdom where Elvis Presley is known to have set foot, when a US Air Force transport carrying him home from West Germany stopped to refuel in 1960. The airport’s railway station, built in 1994, made it the first Scottish airport with its own rail connection, a distinction it still holds today. Today it also serves as a significant cargo hub, with Air China Cargo among the operators using its Terminal E freight facility.
Insider Tips
Prestwick is one of the most hassle-free airports in Scotland to pass through. The single terminal means no guessing which building to go to. Check in online with Ryanair before you leave home to save time at the airport. Car Park 3 is the cheapest for longer trips but adds around 10 minutes to your walk via the railway station walkway, which is covered but can feel cold in winter. The train from Glasgow is the most reliable way to get there without worrying about M77 traffic, particularly on weekday mornings. The spectator gallery is a genuinely pleasant spot if you have time to kill before your flight. Refer to the Prestwick Airport map above to familiarise yourself with the layout before you travel.
