Richmond Airport Map & Terminal Guide 2026
One terminal, two concourses, 23 gates. Everything you need to navigate Richmond International Airport (RIC) — Concourses A and B, security checkpoints, airlines, parking and ground transport.
Richmond Airport Map
The Richmond Airport map below shows the complete layout of Richmond International Airport (RIC/KRIC) — the busiest airport in central Virginia and the third-busiest in the state. RIC set a new passenger record in 2025, handling nearly 4.9 million travellers, and is served by ten airlines flying non-stop to destinations across the United States and beyond.
The airport layout is compact and easy to navigate. A single two-level terminal building branches into two concourses — Concourse A on the left and Concourse B on the right — both accessible from the same secure hallway on the upper level. Study the RIC airport map before you travel to confirm which concourse your airline uses and where to find security, baggage claim and ground transport.

Richmond Airport Location Map
Richmond International Airport is located about 7 miles (11 km) southeast of downtown Richmond in the Sandston community of Henrico County. The airport is accessed via Richard E. Byrd Terminal Drive, connecting to Interstate 64 and the wider Richmond road network. Driving from the city centre typically takes 15–20 minutes outside of peak hours.
Richmond Airport Terminal Layout
Richmond Airport’s terminal underwent a $300 million renovation completed in 2007, creating a modern two-level building that remains one of the most passenger-friendly mid-size terminals in the eastern United States. The layout is deliberately uncrowded: check-in, security and departure gates are all on the upper level, while arrivals, baggage claim, car rentals and ground transport are on the lower level.
Terminal Levels
Richmond Airport Security Checkpoints
Security at Richmond Airport is on the upper (departures) level of the terminal. There are currently two separate TSA checkpoints — one in front of Concourse A and one in front of Concourse B. Both checkpoints offer TSA PreCheck lanes. Once through either checkpoint, you are in the same secure area and can walk between both concourses without re-screening.
Richmond Airport Concourse A
Concourse A is located on the left side of the terminal as you face the airside. It serves primarily American Airlines and JetBlue, and is the smaller of the two concourses with eight gates (A1–A8).
Concourse A connects directly to the secure corridor linking both concourses, so connecting passengers arriving on a Concourse B airline can walk across to A-concourse gates quickly. JetBlue launched new non-stop service to San Juan, Puerto Rico from RIC beginning March 2026.
Richmond Airport Concourse B
Concourse B is located on the right side of the terminal and is the larger and busier of the two concourses, with fifteen gates (B1–B15). It handles the majority of RIC’s traffic, including Southwest, Delta, United and Allegiant. Gate B15 is Richmond’s international departure gate, used for seasonal flights to Cancún, Toronto and Punta Cana, as well as the 2025-launched Bermuda service.
Gate B15 handles all international departures. International arrivals clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection here before proceeding to baggage claim on the lower level. New dining concepts including a Wolfgang Puck-branded restaurant, a Hardywood Park Craft Brewery taproom and The Beet Box are coming to the terminal as part of ongoing improvements.
Walking Between Concourses at Richmond Airport
Unlike many larger airports, Richmond Airport makes inter-concourse transfers simple. Both Concourse A and Concourse B open off the same secure hallway on the upper level of the terminal, so passengers can walk between them without leaving the secure zone or re-clearing security. The walk from one concourse to the other takes only a few minutes and is clearly signposted.
This means that if you have a connecting flight that involves a change of concourse — for example arriving on Delta (Concourse B) and departing on American (Concourse A) — you simply walk through the secure corridor. Allow at least 30 minutes for any connection to account for deplaning time, but the physical distance between concourses is not a concern at RIC.
Getting to Richmond Airport
All ground transport departs from the lower (arrivals) level of the terminal.
Richmond Airport Parking
Pre-book Richmond airport parking and review current rates at flyrichmond.com. New rates took effect from July 2025 — the first increase in over 22 years. The first 60 minutes are free in the hourly and daily garages.
Richmond Airport Map — Arrivals
Arriving passengers at Richmond Airport land at their concourse gate and walk to the secure corridor, then exit through the terminal on the upper level before taking escalators or elevators down to the lower arrivals level. Baggage claim carousels are clearly signposted and located centrally on the lower level, with separate claim areas for Concourse A and Concourse B flights. The Richmond Region Visitor Center on the lower level is a useful stop for travellers new to the area.
International Arrivals
International flights arrive at gate B15 in Concourse B. Passengers clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the international arrivals facility in Concourse B before proceeding to baggage claim on the lower level. If you are meeting an international arrival, wait in the arrivals hall on the lower level — not at the gate.
Richmond Airport Map — Departures
Departing passengers enter the terminal on the upper level via curbside drop-off or the covered walkways from the parking garages. Airline ticket counters are lined along the upper level, divided between east and west sides. Choose the security checkpoint aligned to your concourse — Concourse A on the left, Concourse B on the right — and proceed through to your gate. Both concourses are a short walk from the checkpoint.
Recommended Arrival Times
Arrive at least 90 minutes before domestic flights and at least two to three hours before international departures. RIC is typically fast to navigate, but security queues can build during morning peak periods (roughly 5–8 a.m.). Bag drop desks usually close 45 minutes before departure. Check your airline’s app for the latest gate assignments, as some RIC gates serve multiple carriers during the day.
Dining, Shopping & Amenities
Richmond Airport offers a variety of food and retail options on both sides of security. Landside (before security), the main atrium features Applebee’s and a popular café. Airside, Concourse A has café options and a diner, while Concourse B is home to Cross Grain Brewhouse, Vito’s Market, a coffee shop and additional hot food outlets. New concepts from Wolfgang Puck, Hardywood Park Craft Brewery and The Beet Box are set to open as part of RIC’s ongoing terminal enhancements. The Escape Lounge in the terminal is open to eligible credit card holders. Free WiFi and charging stations are available throughout.
Insider Tips
RIC is a deliberately stress-free airport — compact, well-signed and rarely overwhelmed. Arrive 90 minutes before domestic flights and check your airline app before you leave home so you know which concourse to head for. If you’re travelling with an EV, valet parking now offers charging stations. Early-morning is the busiest security period, so TSA PreCheck users have a clear advantage between 5 and 8 a.m. Use the free cell phone waiting lot on Airport Drive rather than circling if you’re meeting an arrival — the lot is just a few minutes’ drive from the terminal. New parking construction means one road through the garage is closed through June 2026, so follow the signs carefully when entering the North or South garages.
