San Juan Airport Map
The San Juan Airport map below shows the full layout of Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU/TJSJ) — the busiest airport in Puerto Rico and the entire insular Caribbean. SJU recorded 13,643,689 passengers in 2025 and serves over 50 destinations via more than 20 airlines, with JetBlue and American Airlines as its two largest carriers. The airport sits on 1,600 acres in the beachfront Isla Verde district of the municipality of Carolina.
As the San Juan Airport map shows, the layout consists of two main terminal buildings: the self-contained Terminal A to the west, and the larger Terminal B complex to the east, which connects internally to Concourses C and D. Crucially, all four gate areas are linked by secure walkways — no shuttle or train is needed to transfer between concourses. Review the SJU airport map before you travel so you know which terminal your airline uses.

San Juan Airport Terminal Overview
SJU operates as one continuous airport complex split into two main terminals. Terminal A is a self-contained facility on the western side with its own check-in counters, dedicated security checkpoint and baggage claim. Terminal B, on the eastern side, is the larger hub handling all check-in for Concourses B, C and D through a single shared departures level. Post-security, an internal walkway connects all four concourses — meaning a connecting passenger never needs to re-clear security.
Terminal Levels
San Juan Airport Terminal A
Terminal A is the westernmost and newest terminal at SJU, opened in June 2012 and designed as a self-contained facility. JetBlue built and primarily operates Terminal A as a San Juan focus city, but it now also hosts Air Canada, Avelo and Tradewind Aviation. It has its own dedicated check-in counters, security checkpoint, and baggage claim on the lower arrivals level.
JetBlue expanded its SJU operation by 16% in 2025 and launched five additional routes to Florida, the mid-Atlantic and the Northeast in March 2026, making Terminal A one of its most active Caribbean hubs. The TSA PreCheck lane in Terminal A operates 24 hours a day.
San Juan Airport Terminal B
Terminal B is the main hub of SJU, handling check-in for all passengers using Concourses B, C and D. The departures level houses ticket counters for American Airlines, Delta, United, Southwest, Spirit and all other carriers not based in Terminal A. Post-security, the building flows into Concourse B, with walkways extending further to Concourses C and D.
The Terminal B security checkpoint (with TSA PreCheck and CLEAR) is the main departure pathway for most passengers at SJU. Global Entry kiosks are available here for pre-approved international arrivals. The pet relief area is located on the arrivals level near gate B2.
San Juan Airport Concourse C
Concourse C extends from Terminal B and was originally built in 1996 as an expansion for American Airlines’ Caribbean hub, then underwent a $55 million renovation completed in March 2016. It now serves primarily as Frontier Airlines’ base at SJU alongside several international carriers. The US Customs Federal Inspection Station for international arrivals is located between Concourses C and D.
Concourse C features high-end retail and dining renovated as part of the 2016 capacity enhancement programme. International passengers arriving at gates in C or D are processed at the Federal Inspection Station between the two concourses before accessing ground transportation.
San Juan Airport Concourse D
Concourse D occupies what were formerly Terminals D and E and reopened on March 14, 2023 after years of partial use. It now primarily handles small regional and inter-Caribbean carriers, making it the gateway for island-hopping flights. The former Terminal E lower level area provides arrivals services and the Lost & Found police station.
Concourse D serves the smallest aircraft at SJU, primarily turboprops and regional jets linking Puerto Rico to the US Virgin Islands and other Caribbean islands. If you are connecting to Culebra, Vieques or nearby islands, you will likely depart from Concourse D.
Walking Between Concourses at San Juan Airport
One of SJU’s key advantages is that all concourses are connected by secure interior walkways — no shuttle bus or automated train is required. Once past security in either Terminal A or Terminal B, passengers can walk to any gate in the airport. The two security checkpoints converge on the same secure walkway network, so it does not matter which checkpoint you use.
Connection Times
Concourses B and C are adjacent and take around 5 minutes to walk between. Getting from Terminal A to Concourse C or D requires crossing the full terminal complex and can take 15–20 minutes. The airport is roughly 0.6 miles from one extreme to the other. For tight connections, confirm your gate as soon as you land and move promptly — there are no moving walkways covering the full distance. Minimum connection time at SJU is generally considered 45–60 minutes for domestic connections and 90 minutes for international.
San Juan Airport Security Checkpoints
SJU has two TSA security checkpoints: one inside Terminal A and one in Terminal B serving Concourses B, C and D. Both checkpoints provide TSA PreCheck lanes. CLEAR is available at the Terminal B checkpoint. The Terminal A PreCheck lane is staffed 24 hours a day; Terminal B hours are tied to flight schedules (typically open around two hours before the first departure through the last departure).
Getting to San Juan Airport
Ground transportation at SJU departs from the lower arrivals level of both Terminal A and Terminal B. There is no direct rail or metro link to downtown San Juan, so taxis, ride-shares and buses are the main options.

San Juan Airport Map — Arrivals
Passengers arriving on domestic flights (from the US mainland, US Virgin Islands or other US territories) simply land, deplane, and walk to baggage claim on the lower arrivals level of their terminal — no customs or immigration is required, as Puerto Rico is a US territory. International arrivals (from outside the United States) land at Concourse C or D and are processed through the US Customs and Border Protection Federal Inspection Station located between those two concourses before proceeding to baggage claim.
Baggage Claim and Ground Transport
Baggage claim is on the lower arrivals level of both Terminal A and Terminal B. After collecting luggage, taxis and ride-shares are available just outside, and the car rental counters are located between the two terminals on the same level. Bus stops for public routes are on the upper departure level — follow signs inside the terminal. Lost items should be reported to the police station on the lower level of the former Terminal E area, where items are held for up to 90 days.
San Juan Airport Map — Departures
All departure activity is on the upper level of the terminal complex. Check-in counters for JetBlue, Air Canada, Avelo and Tradewind Aviation are in Terminal A; all other airlines check in via Terminal B. After check-in, proceed to the security checkpoint appropriate for your terminal (Terminal A or Terminal B), then continue to your gate via the secure walkway. Arrive at least two hours before domestic departures and three hours before international flights. Bag-drop desks typically close 45–60 minutes before departure, and the airport sees its heaviest security volume between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m.
Insider Tips
Puerto Rico is a US territory — arriving from the mainland feels like a domestic flight even though you are in the Caribbean. No passport is required for US citizens. JetBlue dominates Terminal A and offers the most frequent mainland connections; if you are price-shopping, check Frontier in Concourse C for competitive fares. Night-owl travellers note that some Terminal B restaurants close before the last late-night mainland departures — stock up on snacks beforehand. The consolidated car rental facility between Terminals A and B closes at 11:30 p.m., so plan accordingly for very late arrivals. Highway 26 (Baldorioty de Castro) can be slow during rush hour — build in extra time if arriving or departing on weekday mornings.
