One compact terminal, nine gates and one of the fastest train links in Europe. Everything you need to navigate Southampton Airport (SOU) on England’s south coast.
Southampton Airport Map
The Southampton Airport map below shows the layout of Southampton International Airport (SOU/EGHI) in Eastleigh, Hampshire. SOU serves the south coast of England and handled 885,266 passengers in 2025. The airport is a focus city for easyJet and an operating base for Loganair, which opened its tenth UK base here in January 2026. Five airlines currently connect Southampton to 17 destinations across nine countries, with services to Amsterdam, Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Geneva, Jersey, Guernsey and several Mediterranean leisure routes.
As the Southampton Airport map shows, the layout is compact and straightforward: a single terminal building with check-in and arrivals on the ground floor and the airside departure lounge, Gates 1 to 9 and the Spitfire Lounge on the first floor. There are no satellite piers or separate concourses. Security is the only internal threshold. The airport is also home to a piece of aviation history: the Supermarine Spitfire made its first test flight from this site on 5 March 1936.

Southampton Airport Terminal
Southampton Airport has a single terminal building that handles all departures and arrivals. The terminal is split across two levels: a ground floor for landside functions (check-in, arrivals, baggage reclaim, UK Border Force) and a first floor for the airside departure lounge with all nine gates and the airport’s retail and dining offer. The layout is one of the most straightforward of any UK airport and, once through security, the furthest gate is only a short walk away.
Ground Floor
Gate 3 departure lounge access is also on the ground floor level for some aircraft. Passengers connecting from international flights pass through UK Border Force passport control here before exiting into the arrivals hall.
First Floor (Airside)
All nine departure gates are on this level. Because the terminal is compact, even the most distant gate is reachable in a few minutes on foot. No airside shuttle buses or people movers are required at Southampton.
Airlines at Southampton Airport
As of April 2026, five airlines operate scheduled services from Southampton Airport. easyJet is the largest carrier by volume. Loganair launched its newest UK base here in January 2026 and reached full capacity with two based ATR 72 aircraft by March 2026. KLM operates a daily Amsterdam service that provides onward connections through Schiphol to the global SkyTeam network. Aurigny and Aer Lingus round out the current schedule.
Southampton Airport Security
Southampton Airport has a single security checkpoint on the ground floor. All passengers pass through the same checkpoint regardless of destination. Priority Security, a fast-track lane, is available and can be purchased in advance online or at the airport on the day, subject to availability. eGates are available for eligible passport holders. Once through security, passengers take the stairs or lift to the first-floor airside departure lounge where all nine gates are located.
The Spitfire Lounge
The Spitfire Lounge is Southampton Airport’s airside priority lounge, open to passengers who purchase a day pass in advance. It is located on the first floor inside the security area. The lounge is named in honour of the Supermarine Spitfire, which made its very first test flight from this airfield on 5 March 1936, a connection the airport is rightly proud of. A two-thirds scale sculpture of the prototype Spitfire K5054 stands at the road entrance to the airport as a permanent tribute.
Opening hours are approximately 05:30 to 19:30, varying by season and flight schedule. Non-smoking. Day passes can be booked online in advance at a lower rate than walk-up price. The lounge does not have a shower facility.
Getting to Southampton Airport
Southampton Airport is exceptionally well served by rail. The dedicated Southampton Airport Parkway station is the closest station-to-terminal link of any regional airport in the UK, a 60-second covered walk via a footbridge. For drivers, the airport sits just off M27 Junction 5. Multiple bus routes and taxis complete the ground transport picture.

Southampton Airport Parking
Pre-booking parking at southamptonairport.com is strongly recommended, particularly in summer. The official Long Stay car park is currently closed; Short Stay, Priority and Meet and Greet are the main on-site options. Off-site park and ride options from third-party providers are also available at lower cost.
Southampton Airport Map — Arrivals
Arriving passengers deplane from their aircraft and enter the terminal on the ground floor. Domestic UK flights bypass passport control and proceed directly to baggage reclaim. Passengers arriving on international flights from outside the UK common travel area pass through UK Border Force passport control before collecting bags. Baggage carousels are on the ground floor. Ground transport, taxis and the 60-second walk to Southampton Airport Parkway station are all accessible from the arrivals exit.
Meeting Passengers
The arrivals meeting area is on the ground floor of the terminal. The Short Stay car park is the best option for collecting passengers, with a 30-minute free period for Blue Badge holders. The Long Stay car park is currently closed; the Pick-up and Drop-off zone in the Short Stay car park is the recommended alternative for standard vehicle collections. The first 10 minutes are free; charges apply after that.
Southampton Airport Map — Departures
Departing passengers enter the terminal on the ground floor, check in at desks 4 to 17, drop bags and then clear the single security checkpoint before ascending to the first-floor airside departure lounge. Gate assignments appear on flight information screens throughout both floors and on your airline’s app. Southampton’s compact terminal means even a last-minute walk from security to the gate typically takes under five minutes.
Recommended Arrival Times
Allow at least 90 minutes before departure for domestic and short-haul EU flights, and 2 hours for international. Peak security times are early morning (05:30–08:00) when multiple early departures coincide. Check-in desks generally close 40 to 45 minutes before scheduled departure. Gate closes are enforced, so watch the screens.
Insider Tips
Southampton is one of the easiest UK airports to navigate precisely because it is small. Security queues at peak times are the main delay risk. If you are arriving by train and your flight is early, the station footbridge is your friend: the train platform to the check-in hall is genuinely about 60 seconds. Do not underestimate the Short Stay car park costs if you are parking for more than two days; off-site park and ride is dramatically cheaper. The Spitfire Lounge is worth the cost on early departures when the terminal concessions are still setting up. Refer to the Southampton Airport map above to orientate yourself before you travel.
