Stockholm Arlanda Airport Map & Terminal Guide 2026
Four terminals, SkyCity, and the Arlanda Express. Everything you need to navigate Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) — Sweden’s largest airport and the main gateway to Scandinavia.
Stockholm Arlanda Airport Map
The Stockholm Arlanda Airport map below shows the full layout of ARN (ESSA), Sweden’s largest and busiest airport. Arlanda handled 22.7 million passengers in 2024 and offered 163 direct destinations in 2025, including 138 international and 25 domestic routes. It serves as the primary hub for Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) and a major base for Norwegian Air Shuttle, with more than 60 airlines operating scheduled services.
As the Arlanda Airport map shows, the layout runs roughly north to south. Terminal 5 and Terminal 4 form a connected block in the north, joined by the SkyCity retail and transport atrium. Terminal 2 sits about 200 metres to the south, while the compact Terminal 3 is accessed directly through Terminal 2. Rather than separating domestic from international flights, ARN divides its gates into Schengen and non-Schengen zones — so knowing your terminal and pier matters more than knowing whether your flight is domestic or international.

Stockholm Arlanda Airport Location
Stockholm Arlanda Airport is located approximately 42 km north of Stockholm city centre, in the municipality of Sigtuna, Stockholm County. The airport sits alongside the E4 motorway, making it straightforward to reach from both Stockholm and Uppsala. The Arlanda Express reaches Stockholm Central Station in just 18 minutes, making ARN one of the best-connected major airports in Europe relative to its distance from the city.
Stockholm Arlanda Airport Terminals
ARN has four operational terminals numbered 2, 3, 4 and 5. There is no Terminal 1 — that designation was reserved for a terminal south of Terminal 2 that was never built. The terminals do not strictly separate domestic from international flights. Instead, gates are divided into Schengen and non-Schengen departures within each terminal. Terminal 5 is the largest and most important, housing the SAS and Norwegian check-in halls, the main shopping and food areas, and Arlanda North station. Terminals 4 and 5 are connected airside and share a security zone. Terminal 2, about 200 metres south of Terminal 4, is a separate building with its own check-in, security and arrivals.
Terminal 2 — International OneWorld & SkyTeam
Terminal 2 is the main international terminal for OneWorld and some SkyTeam carriers. It sits roughly 200 metres south of Terminal 4, connected landside via an indoor corridor through the railway station level. Check-in, security, arrivals and baggage reclaim are all handled within Terminal 2. Gates run from 61 to 72, plus 86 and 87. The terminal is served by Arlanda South station, where you can catch the Arlanda Express or SL commuter trains. A dedicated fast track lane is available at the single security checkpoint. Terminal 3 is accessed from Terminal 2 — passengers walk about 200 metres to reach the Terminal 3 gates (51 to 59).
SkyTeam partners Air France and KLM operate from Terminal 2, while SAS (also a SkyTeam member) uses Terminal 5. Airside connections to Terminal 5 are made via a free shuttle bus from gate F5 (Schengen) or gates F1/D24 (non-Schengen).
Terminal 3 — Regional Schengen Flights
Terminal 3 handles regional Schengen flights for smaller carriers. Passengers access Terminal 3 through Terminal 2 and then walk approximately 200 metres to the gates (51 to 59), where boarding is often via airstairs directly onto the apron. Terminal 3 has no customs, so arriving international passengers exit through Terminal 2 by bus. The terminal reopened fully in October 2024 after its post-pandemic closure, now serving carriers like PopulAir, Jonair and Västflyg.
Terminal 3 is compact and geared for quick regional turnarounds. Check in at the Terminal 2 desks; security is also in Terminal 2 before you walk to the Terminal 3 gates.
Terminal 4 — Low-Cost Carrier Pier (C Gates)
Terminal 4 is now fully integrated into the Terminal 5 complex via an airside walkway. As of 2026 it has no separate check-in, security, customs or baggage reclaim — all of those functions are handled in Terminal 5. Ryanair and Wizz Air check in at Terminal 5 desks before passengers walk or are bused to the C gates (C30 to C44). The pier has 14 stands with passenger bridges and a small Menzies Pearl Lounge near gate C37. Walking from the furthest C gate to the furthest F gate in Terminal 5 takes about 15 minutes.
Check in at Terminal 5 and follow airside signs to the C pier. Gates C31 to C44 have jetways; bus gates C30B to C30D require a short apron bus ride.
Terminal 5 — Main Terminal
Terminal 5 is the heart of Stockholm Arlanda Airport and handles SAS, Norwegian and the majority of other carriers not assigned to Terminal 2. It is the largest terminal, with three gate piers: D (domestic and short-haul Schengen), E (Schengen and some non-Schengen), and F (non-Schengen and long-haul). SAS operates from desks 71 to 90 at the north-east end of the departure hall; Norwegian uses desks 1 to 12 at the south end near SkyCity. A single consolidated security checkpoint feeds all three piers. The Arlanda North station for the Arlanda Express sits at the north end of Terminal 5.
Pier F handles most SAS long-haul and non-Schengen flights as well as Emirates and Qatar Airways. The F pier also contains the bus gates used for inter-terminal shuttle connections to Terminal 2. Pier G is planned for future expansion.
SkyCity — The Airport’s Central Hub
SkyCity is the indoor atrium between Terminals 4 and 5 and forms the commercial and transport heart of Stockholm Arlanda. Below SkyCity sits Arlanda Central Station, serving the Arlanda Express, SL commuter trains (to Stockholm and Uppsala) and long-distance trains operated by SJ and Vy. Passengers using Arlanda Central Station pay a SEK 157 station fee at the ticket gates if it is not already included in their ticket price. SkyCity contains the widest selection of shops and restaurants at the airport, along with direct access to the Clarion Hotel Arlanda and the Radisson Blu Airport Terminal Hotel, both reachable without going outside.
Getting Between Terminals at ARN
Moving between terminals at Arlanda Airport depends on your route and whether you are airside or landside. Terminals 4 and 5 share an airside walkway and operate as a single transit zone — there is no security to re-clear between them. A walk from the C pier to the F pier takes about 15 minutes. Between Terminals 2 and 5, passengers can travel airside on the free inter-terminal shuttle bus (running 6:00 to 22:00 daily), or landside through the SkyCity corridor, which takes around 10 to 12 minutes on foot.
Connection Times
The official minimum connection time at ARN is 30 minutes for Schengen to Schengen flights within Terminal 5, and 40 to 45 minutes for cross-Schengen connections or transfers involving Terminal 2 and Terminal 5. Walking time from the far end of Pier C to the far end of Pier F is roughly 20 minutes. If your connection involves the Terminal 2 shuttle, build in at least 15 extra minutes. For first-time visitors, 45 to 60 minutes is a more comfortable buffer on most connections.
Stockholm Arlanda Airport Security
Terminal 2 has a single security checkpoint with a dedicated fast track lane. Terminal 5 has the main consolidated security checkpoint, equipped with CT scanners that went live in 2023 and allow passengers to leave laptops and liquids in their bags. Separate security for Terminal 4 guests is no longer needed as the T4 airside walkway bypasses the checkpoint area entirely. Passengers heading to the C gates after clearing security in Terminal 5 follow airside signs through the walkway. Terminal 3 passengers clear security at Terminal 2 before walking to the gates.
Getting to Stockholm Arlanda Airport
ARN is one of the best-connected airports in Scandinavia for ground transport. The Arlanda Express is the fastest option and provides a non-stop link to Stockholm Central Station in 18 minutes. Passengers arriving from Uppsala can take the SL commuter train or SJ train direct to Arlanda Central Station in SkyCity without passing through Stockholm. A free shuttle bus (the ALFA bus) connects terminals, hotels and parking areas within the airport perimeter.
Stockholm Arlanda Airport Parking
Pre-book parking at swedavia.com/arlanda for the best rates. Walk-up prices at all ARN lots are significantly higher than pre-booked rates. Around 22,000 official spaces are available across multiple lots, ranging from covered short-stay decks next to Terminal 5 to budget outdoor lots with shuttle connections.
Arrivals at Stockholm Arlanda Airport
Domestic and Schengen arrivals at Terminal 5 proceed directly from the gate through the airside area to baggage reclaim on Level 2. Non-Schengen arrivals pass through passport control and customs in Terminal 5 before exiting to the arrivals hall. At Terminal 2, the same flow applies: Schengen arrivals exit via baggage reclaim while non-Schengen passengers clear passport control in the terminal. Passengers arriving on Terminal 3 flights are bused from the aircraft to Terminal 2, where they exit through the Terminal 2 arrivals hall, since Terminal 3 has no customs or baggage reclaim of its own.
Meeting a Passenger
Arrivals halls are on Level 2 at both Terminal 2 and Terminal 5. Taxi ranks, ride-share pickup and bus stops are on the ground level outside each terminal’s arrivals exit. For Terminal 5, the Arlanda North station is directly connected. For Terminal 2, Arlanda South station is a short walk. Confirm which terminal your passenger is arriving at before you head to the airport — Terminal 2 and Terminal 5 have separate road access and are not within easy walking distance of each other landside.
Departures at Stockholm Arlanda Airport
Check your ticket to confirm which terminal you depart from. Terminal 5 handles the majority of flights, but OneWorld and some SkyTeam carriers use Terminal 2. Ryanair and Wizz Air check in at Terminal 5 before using the C gates in Terminal 4. For any terminal, the departure halls and check-in desks are on Level 3. After security, follow signs for your gate pier. Schengen gates are D and E (and parts of C); non-Schengen gates are mainly F (and parts of C for some carriers).
Recommended Arrival Times
Allow at least 2 hours before Schengen departures and at least 3 hours before non-Schengen and long-haul flights. During busy periods — summer weekends, school holidays, major public holidays — add an extra 30 minutes for security queues. Check-in desks typically close 40 to 60 minutes before departure. Gate assignments appear on departure boards throughout the terminal and on your airline’s app.
Insider Tips for Navigating ARN
SkyCity is the easiest landmark to navigate from — it sits between Terminals 4 and 5 and connects everything. If you have time before a flight from Terminal 5 or Terminal 4, the SkyCity restaurants and shops are accessible both before and after security. The new CT scanner lanes in Terminal 5 (opened 2023) mean you no longer need to remove laptops or liquids from your bag, speeding up the process considerably. If you are connecting from Terminal 2 to Terminal 5 on a tight schedule, the airside shuttle bus is faster than walking landside through SkyCity. SAS operates its SAS Gold and Business lounges near gate E1 in Terminal 5, which is well into the pier — allow 5 minutes to walk from security. The Arlanda Express is significantly faster than any bus or road option and is worth the premium if time matters to you.
